Is there a difference in the length of time until rodent death after ingestion? I believe FASTRAC is 12-48 hrs.. We are baiting 5 acres of common area landscape in a community. ThanksAFastrac contains the active ingredient Bromethalin .01% and Final contains Brodifacoum .005%. Fastrac does have a faster kill than Final. Fastrac kills within 12-48 hours and Final kills with 3-7 days of ingestion of a lethal dose.

There is also an antidote that is available through your local vet if a pet gets a hold of the bait. Keep stored at room temperature out of their reach. Also, a dog or cat would have to get a hold of numerous dead rodents to feel the effects of a rodent bait, usually more than 10, and the pet would have to actually consume the entire rodent. Most pets might play around with a dead rodent, but not consume it.

I live in NYC, and I have a rat infestation under a ground level outdoor deck. I have three tamper proof bait stations outside with Contrac Blox in them. Should I be using Final for an infestation?AFinal Blox and Contrac Blox are pretty comparable, though Final Blox may actually kill the rat a bit faster. For the fastest knockdown of a rat population Fastrac Blox are recommended.

An antidote does really exist and is readily available at veterinarian hospitals, doctors offices and hospitals in case of accidental ingestion. Please take a few minutes to review the Final Blox MSDS. Review page 2, SECTION VI. HEALTH HAZARDS where they refer to the antidote Vitamin K1.

The federal government has decided that certain types of rodenticides should not be sold in the same manner they have been after June 4, 2011. These regulations were passed to try to prevent over the counter sales of rodenticides to homeowners and minimize secondary poisoning and misuse of rodenticides. Unfortunately too many people have placed rodenticides in locations they should not be, such as easy to access places that children and pets can easily get to. Basically all of the smaller quantities of rodent bait that you have been able to purchase over the counter will no longer be available. You will only be able to purchase bait already inside a rodent station that is a one time use product. It will come pre-baited in a sealed rodent station. This will be the general rule for big box stores like Wal-Mart and Home Depot. For a specialty store like ourselves, Do My Own Pest Control, we will no longer be able to sell certain rodent place packs, liquid rodenticides, or bait blox in smaller quantities than 16 pounds. This was passed to discourage homeowners from purchasing rodenticides since they have to now purchase them in large quantities. Most homeowners do not need 16 lbs worth of place packs. We will be able to continue to sell the current stock that we have of currently labeled product while supplies last. However, after June 4th, once we sell out of our current stock and start receiving newly manufactured bait, we will no longer be able to sell it in less than 16lb increments. There will be some baits that we can continue to sell in smaller quantities but they will be very few and only the ones that have a minimal secondary poisoning risk. -

There are a lot of "old wives tales" that suggest that there are rodenticides that will make a rodent exit the building after they eat the bait, leave in search of water or dry up immediately after death and leave no stench behind. Unfortunately, none of this is true. If a rodent dies, it will smell as it decomposes and the rodent will die wherever it succumbs to the poison which is likely to be is an inaccessible area where the rodent has been nesting. We recommend using glue boards, snap traps or multi-catch mouse traps indoors, so you will know exactly where the mouse has died and can remove it with ease. -

First, different baits do have different food bases and different active ingredients, so sometimes one formulation is just more attractive to a rodent populaion than others. Another explanation - which sounds like what is happening here - is that the rodents are eating the bait you have put out, but you are just going through less bait. The active ingredient in Final Blox is more aggressive than that in Contrac, so it is very likely that the rodents will die before eating very much bait. Both Contrac and Final are single feed baits (the rodent only has to feed on it one time to consume a lethal dose), but since the rodents have more time to feed on Contrac before they die, we will sometimes go through more bait. As long as you are seeing the signs of rodent activity diminishing, then we would continue to monitor the area and supply fresh bait as long as you are seeing rodent activity. -

In outdoors, when I have to change the block if it isn't eaten?AIt would be recommended to change Final Blox Rodenticide out every 40-60 days if not eaten. Very cold or warm temperatures will mold or sour the bait faster.

An 80 lb dog would need to eat (actually consume, not just come into contact with or play with) many, many dead mice for the animal to get sick. Most pet animals do not consume these mice because they are well fed and have no need to eat the dead animal. A few months ago I noticed some rat activity around my house, so I bought and installed a few Protecta bait stations and a pail of Final blox and place them around the house. It did the trick and soon I noticed no more rats. Just to be on the safe side, since then I've been replenishing the stations with fresh bait from time to time. To my surprise, over the last few nights, I started seeing rats again. This morning I checked the bait stations and they were all empty. There were 3 stations with 8 blox inside each, so I now wonder how come they are all eaten: a) either it takes many days for the bait to kill the rats so they keep coming back and eat what has left, or b) there are many, many of them to eat all those blox. So, my question is - is it good idea at all to have these blox in the bait stations all the time. Could they actually attract rats. Would one rat bring others to the feast? I know, they will eventually die, but they can also multiply in vicinity while still alive. Also, how many of these blox are sufficient to kill a rat. You can use Final Blox around a compost pile or garden but they must be contained in a tamper resistant bait station and they must be used within 50 ft of a structure due to the new EPA restrictions.

I am using ten Protecta LP bait stations on my place for mouse control. The blox I am currently using are the green Tomcat bait chunx with 0.01% Bromethalin. They seem to be disappearing, but I want to make sure I am using the most potent thing you have. They seem to work, but can I get more bang for my buck with something else? I know they say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". At this point I don't know if it is even broke! Please advise...and Thanks.AOur quickest killing bait uses .01 Bromethalin. You could try Final Blox which contains a more attractive bait matrix. It will kill with a single feed.
