Flea Stoppers is a granulated product that will settle to the bottom of carpet and it is highly purified. There are many products that contain the active ingredient Boric Acid but the formulations vary greatly. Regular Borax is more of a powdery formulation which could cause risk of inhalation for pets and people when it is disturbed. Also using Borax as a flea control product is considered an off label usage and not permitted by law.

Flea Stoppers contains a highly purified orthoboric acid in a granulated form. Flea Stoppers has a sandy consistency so that it can get to the bottom fibers in your carpet and rugs where fleas and flea eggs are developing.

I bought Flea Stoppers, I noticed this is in a kit. I already have the Precor 2000 Plus and just want to know if it will work with it.

When is it safe for my baby crawl on the carpet after applying Flea Stoppers?
In previous questions, you stated that it is safe for babies to crawl in the carpet once the application has been completed. But it says to wait to vacuum for 5-7 days. Is it safe for them to crawl on the carpet before vacuuming while waiting out the 5-7 days?

It is safe for babies to crawl across a treated surface after the product has been brushed into the carpet and allowed to settle. An hour should be plenty of time. Flea Stoppers is a boric acid based product which has the toxicity of table salt.

Why does the Flea Stoppers label ask you to "avoid breathing dust"?
Due to the precautionary statement I'm very concerned about putting this on my carpet, though my pest control guy advised me to use it. I have three small children and three dogs in the home. I know it's supposed to be granulated, however there does sound like a conflict.

That is a precautionary statement on all "dust" products that the manufacturers list for safety. Flea Stoppers is safe if applied as directed on the product label. It is a granulated formulation and not a dust formulation and this product is safe to use around asthmatics, crawling babies and pets (including birds, fish, ferrets, rabbits and other small animals) as it does not pose the same inhalation risks as other products. Children should not be in the area that was treated with Flea Stoppers until the entire application is complete. Rake or brush it to the nape of the carpet to get it down to where it needs to be.

So if I just the flea stopper on my house do I need to buy something else to kill the fleas on my cat??
I brush them daily at this point with a comb, but no additional chemicals.

Why do fleas still exist after applying Flea Stoppers?
Last Friday I thoroughly vacuumed my carpet multiple times before I applied the flea stopper. I applied the product last Friday and limited contact with the room, and actually no one has been in room for over 3 days. I checked to see if the flea problem was gone today and it seems to have gotten worse. More fleas jump on my bare feet than before. I even applied double amount than should have. What is going on? Does this product not work?

Fleas are a prolific and tricky pest to treat, so successful treatments may take anywhere from several weeks to several months, depending on many factors. While Flea Stoppers will kill fleas, the mode of action is slow, so using only this product will take much longer than using it in conjunction with knockdown sprays and Insect Growth Regulators, such as those found in our Indoor Flea and Tick Kit. Flea Stoppers also should be brushed into carpets and rugs with a broom or stiff bristle brush. Skipping this step will greatly decrease the efficacy of Flea Stopper. If a room with fleas is left empty for several days, and then there is suddenly activity, this activity will stir dormant fleas, often creating the illusion that there are more fleas than previously thought. No. Fleastoppers works really well on carpet but will make your hardwood floors very slippery. Instead you should use a product such as Alpine Flea Insecticde Spray with IGR. You should focus on cracks and crevices only as just vacuuming will remove fleas, eggs, and pupa from the surface of the floors. We have never had a report that this product stained or otherwise marked hardwood floors but because there are so many type of finishes we do recommend you test it for staining on a small inconspicuous area before doing the entire application.

For homes without carpet you would be better off using an aerosol such as Nyguard Plus in the cracks and crevices around the rooms. Cimexa Insecticide Dust could be also be used there if you would prefer a dust. We actually include both of these products in our Indoor Flea Kit that is most recommended to treat indoors.

Once Flea Stoppers is vacuumed up, is it safe to for people to lay on carpet?
We lay on carpet for various stretching exercises. Is that safe to resume once product has been vacuumed up? Q2: Also, if there are stray fleas, is it possible for them to hitch a ride on daughter's belongings and infest her dorm room at college if no pets there? Thanks!

Yes, it is safe to lay on carpets after Flea stoppers have been vacuumed up. It is very unlikely for the fleas to hitch hike to your daughters dorm, as they would need a food source. Make sure to thoroughly clean and wash all items possible before departure.

I would recommend one of our aerosol products for fleas on the hardwoods such as Ultracide. It can be applied on hardwoods and on carpets, and it is very safe to use around pets. It is very important to vacuum first and then apply the product while the pets are in another room or outside. Once the product is dry, which usually only takes about 20 minutes, it is safe to allow the pets back into the room.
