Merit 0.5 G Insectcide Granules are the longest lasting broad-spectrum grub control product on the market. Both curative and preventative, Merit Granules holds a ten-year record of 90% effectiveness on virtually every species of turf and ornamental pests. Merit even improves the quality of your turf. Merit 0.5 G is for broadcast application on and around turfgrass, ornamentals, trees, shrubs, flowers, groundcovers, and in and around commercial or residential buildings. Apply Merit 0.5 G uniformly over area being treated with normally used granular application equipment. Both drop-type and rotary-type spreaders may be used. Tips for Use

MERIT is most effective when applied prior to, or just after, egg lay. In most cases, adult emergence occurs in early summer, often after significant rainfall or irrigation, followed by mating and egg laying. This usually continues for four to six weeks. Under normal circumstances, Merit will provide residual white grub control for four months or longer in turf.

    Grub control that works

    By Jim on 04/04/2011

    Verified Purchase

I have spent hundreds of dollars on different grub control products each year with the same result: grubs. Last year I discovered the 0.5 G Merit and thought that the extra strength might get it done. After years of frustration, this product worked as advertised.

    This stuff works

    By Doug on 09/09/2012

I've been fighting with white grubs destroying my marathon 2 lawn for several years and had tried several products before, but they barely slowed down the spread. After one application of the Merit Granules the spread of the dead areas has ceased and visible recovery has begun. If you have white grubs, this stuff works.

    best product ever

    By David on 09/18/2010

    Verified Purchase

last year i awoke to find my yard over run by crows. During the day i would run outside and chase them away but they would return within the hour. The crows were destorying my lawn. So i called a professional lawn service and they promise to treat and end the problem. The day after the lawn was sprayed the crows continued tearing up my lawn. Even after a month later. At that point i searched the internet and found a product called" crowbegone". A cd with strange bird calls but after a month of use it to was a failure. The crows had won so i thought. Thats when i came across your wed site and purchase Merit G. In two words "It Works ". After chasing away the crows i applied Merit G and watered it in real good that evening. Within the first week i observed fewer crows on my lawn. By the second week the crows would land on the lawn and walk around looking for their grub meal but the kitchen was closed. After a month only one or two crows would check out the lawn and then walk away. Problem solved. Now my lawn is beautiful again. THANKS.

Q
What should I use for grubs on my lawn?

Merit granular, Bayer or your suggestion? I am ready to attack!

A
Merit Granule is actually manufactured by Bayer and is always our top recommendation for grub control. For best results, make application prior to egg hatch. To find out when grub egg hatch normally occurs in your area you should contact your local cooperative extension office.

Q
How safe is Merit Granules around pets?

8000 sq ft yard, when will it be safe for my 2 small dogs to go back on the lawn after I treat it?

A
Your pets should be out of the yard while you are applying the Merit Granules and while you are watering them in. Your pets can return to the area after the surface of the grass is dry, usually after about 5-6 hours.

Q
The Merit 0.5 label doesn't list settings for Scotts Edgeguard spreader. What setting should I use for 60lbs/A

I'm using a Scott's ProEdgeguard broadcast spreader (setting dial 2-15). Product is Merit 0.5 granules.

A

We do not know the setting for that spreader and we are not sure exactly what to set it on.  However, almost all fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, etc have treatments in amounts of so much product per 1000 square feet.  So if you can figure out what your walking speed is then you know anytime you apply any product that calls for so much of it per 1000 square feet, you always set your spreader on this setting.  You can calibrate this by marking off a 1000 square foot (10 x 100) area and placing 1.4 pounds of any type of product of similar granule size, or of the merit itself in the spreader.  Start with a low setting and start walking your marked off area at a normal pace.  You can adjust as you go and find the basic setting for you to apply the product over a 1000 square feet. The 60 pounds per acre equates to 1.4 pounds per 1000 square feet.  Or, you can call Bayer, the manufacturer, and they may be able to tell you what setting you should have it on.  You can reach them at (800) 331-2867.

Q
Can Merit Granules be used as a systemic treatment for trees?

Bayer sells a product, "12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed" which contains 1.1% Imidacloprid plus some fertilizer. Can I substitute Merit granules or ImiGold for the same systemic tree treatment if I adjust the dose to account for the lower percentage of Imidacloprid?

A
Merit Granules and Imigold Granules can be used for trees but is only labeled to treat white grubs when used for tree applications. Merit 75 WSP or the less expensive Adonis 2F is most often chosen to use for systemic root drenches on trees and shrubs.

Q
How do I apply Merit granules around a 150-foot pine tree to protect against beetle infestation?

I live in the sierras and Merit granules were suggested by my arborist to protect our pines and alders from beetle infestation. I was told to apply it around the base of each tree, but I'm unclear on how to measure the tree to determine how much I need.

A
According to the Merit Granules product label, this product is specifically for protecting plants and trees from white grub larvae in the soil. We recommend that you use the Merit 75 WP or the Merit 75 WSP. Please read the Merit 75 WP product page (scroll down below the product description) for more information on how to calculate how much Merit you will need to treat your trees.

Q
Will Merit Granules kill springtails to only the products mentioned, can I put Bifen granules on top of Merit?

I have brand new sod, and a new pool that now has thousands of springtails in it!! I have never noticed them here before, but I now have a serious infestation. I use dishwashing liquid to the springtails in the pool but news ones are back in a couple of hours. I have just treated with Merit. Do I need to add anything else?

A
Merit is not labeled for springtails so we cannot say for sure that it will help control this pest. The most often used product for springatils is Talstar P. Springtails indicate that there is a moisture issue because they breed under slabs or in leaf litter where a moisture issue may exist.  Typically, pesticides alone will not take care of a springtail problem.  You will be required to fix whatever moisture issue is causing the problem.  You should read our "How To Get Rid of Springtails" article for further information.

Q
I have grubs and/or mole crickets throughout my yard. I live in Columbia, SC. If I applied now this time of
A
Merit and other products containing imidacloprid should be applied prior to egg hatch of the target pests, which means the product is typically applied in the spring/early summer. Later in the season folks typically use Dylox as a curative treatment. We recommend you check with your local cooperative extension office to see what they recommend you apply this late in the season in your region.

Q
Will merit be a good defense against white fly and how long will an application last on ficus hedges?
A
Merit WSP and Merit WP are good choices for white fly on ficus. You can expect an application to last 3-6 months but depending on the size of the ficus it may take 1-2 months to see the begininng result as the product must translocate through the ficus. While you are waiting for it to work you can do foliage sprays with Talstar P for immediate results.  Merit Granules (the product you referenced in your question) is not labeled to deal with whitefly on ficus because its usage rate is much different.

Q
Are Merit Granules safe to use on a lawn where we have wildlife such as birds and rabbits?

is Merit Granules safe to use on a lawn where we have wild life, like many varieties of birds, also rabbits. We also have cats. I will not use any product that threatens to kill or cause wildlife or any animals to suffer in any way. Our grub situation appears to be quite serious suddenly. We are in KS, it has been warm & I think they are hatching or whatever they do. We have about 2 acres. Thank you.

A
As long as you follow the product label and keep all animals off of the area during the treatment and for a couple of hours following the treatment you should not have any issues at all. Do you know what kind of grubs you are dealing with? If you are dealing with Japanese Beetle Grubs you could also use St Gabriels Milky Spore which is non-toxic to animals and people at all stages. You can check with your local cooperative extension office to see what kind of beetle grubs you are dealing with if you are not sure.

Q
When you apply the Merit granules, does the chemical stay in the soil and protect grass planted later on?

when you apply the Merit granules for example in late June, does the chemical stay in the soil such that if you plant grass seed a couple months later in Sept, will the new grass have the systemic protection as well? or would the new grass be unprotected?

A
The Merit that is applied will be in the soil for some time but it is trans-located through the plants that are in currently in place. Newly planted grass should be retreated.
