    Q
Can you spray Phantom on your bed, babys furniture? is it safe? Is this product known to cause cancer?
A man came in today and sprayed for bedbugs with phantom. He sprayed the baseboards and the permiter. my living room furniture, my babys bed, the dog bed and my mattress and boxspring? is it still safe to sleep on? and what should i do if not? Is this stuff toxic? He had my one year old, my dog and myself stay in the house while he was spraying.
    A

We cannot comment on any work done by a pest control company for liability reasons. We can tell you that the areas you mentioned that were sprayed with the Phantom are listed as areas that can safely be treated on the Phantom Aerosol product label. You do need to let the treated areas dry before you…

    Q
Best ant bait to use in an open crawl space?
My house is on piers with an open crawl space. I am having problem with small protein eating ants coming in from where the wall meets the wood floors. I have used your Advance granular, which they do like, but the granules are usually too large to fit through the opening in the floors/wall cracks (I see where they have carried the granules back to the crack but left them). I have cats and there are outdoor animals (raccoons, possums, etc.) that travel under my house, so I want the least toxic method to get rid of these ants. What do you suggest to use indoors as well as outdoors? I have been told that applying petroleum jelly around all the piers and pipes that connect to the ground will keep them out, but I certainly don't want to take on that job!
    A

Phantom Aerosol would be a good choice for you. Phantom should be applied around baseboards, door frames, window frames and places where utilities (cables, pipes and wires) enter through the wall as these are the most likely places for the ants to enter/exit. Phantom is a non-repellent insectici…

    Q
Has there been any report of bed bugs becoming resistant to Phantom?
    A

Phantom Aerosol Spray is currently one of the most promising products for bed bug control available right now.  It has shown very good results against bed bug colonies that are resistant to other products and to date has not shown any resistance to the Phantom itself.

    Q
What do I do when ants ignore every kind of sweet and protein bait I have offered them?
I have small (~1/8", no more than 3/16" long) black or very dark brown ants which are in the wall behind the bathroom shower. I have found a hole where they come out at the base of the shower. I tried several sugar-syrup baits (terro and revenge, plus home-made boric acid + sugar +water and boric acid + pancake syrup, and Raid bait traps, which appear to have peanut butter inside. I also made home-made peanut butter + boric acid. I put out a small piece of cheese. Nothing seems to attract them. I have ordered some Advance 375A protein bait and some Intice sweet liquid bait from your web site, but have not received them yet, so I don't know if they will work. I would prefer to use baits, as I am not enthused with spreading toxic sprays inside my house. Please advise.
    A

There are several species of ants that make their own food and will not take any type of bait at all. You may be dealing with one of these ant species. In cases like this you are limited to using a spray, dust or foam of some sort to gain control. When the products are used as recommended on the pro…

Can I use Phantom Insecticide Spray in combination with Diatomaceous Earth?
I want to get the Phantom for the bedbug problem in my apartment. It is recommended that we use the Phantom only in cracks and crevices. Can I use it in combination with MotherEarth Dust? I like the Phantom spray for cracks and crevices and DE for the carpets.
    A

You can use Phantom Aerosol spray in the same area as other products like MotherEarth D. Phantom Aerosol Spray is ideal for cracks and crevices and has been proven to be very effective against bed bugs.

    Q
Do I need to clean inside the kitchen cupboards after using Phantom?
Hello, I have used the Phantom Aerosol to spray along crevices and corners inside the kitchen cupboards. However, I am sure some stuff got sprayed around (I had no little stick attachment). I have weevils and other bugs crawling everywhere. I have got rid off all the food that was open. Now, I bought some new food. Can I put it in the cabinets the next day? Should I wipe off the shelves? Some food will sit open inside the cabinet, like a sugar bowl. Thanks!
    A

Once Phantom has dried, you can put all your food back into the cabinets. It is not required that you wipe the shelves down, but it will not remove the pesticide if you do. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

I bought the bed bug treatment with the phantom spray but I found that your q and A seems to recommend the bedlam spray. What are the factors I should pay attention to when using the phantom spray. What are the advantages of using one spray over the other.

There are many factors that we considering when answering a customer submitted question. Phantom is one of the top products on the market for bedbug infestations but for some customers it is too costly. Q
Why do the instructions with Phantom aerosol say to use it only every 28 days?
The Q and A on this site says Phantom lasts only 7-14 days as a residual, no different than anything else. So why, then, do the instructions limit the application to only once in every 4 weeks? I have seen this limitation for no other pesticide for bed bugs.
    A

In the specific question that you are referencing, the person was also using Bedlam for spot treatments and it is Bedlam that should be re-applied every 7-10 days. Phantom has a residual that lasts about a month for bedbug control. The manufacturer of Phantom has spent a lot time, money and resource…

    Q
Is it okay for me to use Phantom in places other than cracks and crevices?
I know it says on the label to use in voids, cracks, crevices and spot treatment, but the places the ants are coming from are beneath my baseboards. Is it okay for me to spray along the baseboards around the house, including the living room and kitchen? And when it says use in a well ventilated area, do I need windows open or can I just blast my air-conditioner and turn on the fans after application? ( By the way, I find your site extraordinarily informative, I really love it! )
    A

You can spray the bottom of the baseboards with Phantom but do try to aim for the cracks at the bottom of the baseboards where the ants are emerging. Most homes are pretty well ventilated but if yours is not then you should indeed open a window for a few minutes while you are applying the product. W…

    Does Phantom contain pyrethroids/permethrin?
I have two indoor cats, one with asthma, and I know that permethrin is highly toxic to felines. I don't feel that it is safe to use even if instructions are followed. Please advise.
    A

Phantom does not contain permethrin or any other synthetic pyrethroids. The active ingredient in Phantom is Chlorfenapyr which is from a different class of insecticides known as pyrrole. When applying Phantom (or any other insecticide) all pets should be removed from the area and they should not ret…

    Q
I have ants coming in my bathroom from the ceiling. What else do I need to do to kill these ants.
I bought Taurus SC and sprayed it around my house and up the foundation to the siding. There is some/little indication of ants on part of my foundation. I just sprayed this two days ago. The ants in my bathroom are getting worse. Many now have wings!!!! I finally found out exactly where they are coming from; a gap between the can light insert and the sheet rock. The gap is about 1/4 inch all around the can light. Isn't there something else I can spray or a dust I can put up in those cracks to kill the colony. They did not respond to bait. Or, do we need to treat our attic crawl space with something. I know I need to give Taurus SC time to work but the ants are getting worse in my bathroom. They don't go back up to the can light. They basically die on the counter top.
    A

Yes, it can take awhile for the Taurus to transfer and eradicate the ant colony. You may also want to use Phantom for inside those cracks and crevices. Phantom has a transfer effect allowing insects to pick up the product and spread it to one another through touch and food-sharing.

Does Phantom II Aerosol Spray work for carpenter ants?
The label does not list carpenter ants but in the description it says carpenter ants? Which is correct?
    A

Phantom II Aerosol Spray does not list all species of ants which it controls on the product label but will work for carpenter ants.  It will work like a bait in that it is taken back to the colony and spread from those ants that contact a treated surface.

There is a small spot area underneath my computer table where the bugs are especially active and probably live between the floor tiles. I would like to spray the Phantom for long-term control and the Onslaught or Bedlam for more immediate control.

You should apply one or the other, but not two in the same place.  All of the products you had mentioned are very good products and it really is overkill to apply two in the same place.  Bedlam and Onslaught may work a little quicker than Phantom and because of this it would not benefit yo…
