DIRECTIONS FOR USE

It is a violation of Federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.

General Precautions and Restrictions

  • Do not apply this product in a way that will contact any person or pet, either directly or through drift. Keep people and pets out of the area during application.
  • Do not allow people or pets to enter the treated area until sprays have dried.
  • Not for use on turf being grown for sale or other commercial use as sod, or for commercial seed production, or for research purposes.

WHERE TO USE

This product is intended for use on most ornamental lawns including:

COOL SEASON TURFGRASS

  • Kentucky Bluegrass
  • Perennial Ryegrass
  • Tall Fescue
  • Red or Fine Leaf Fescues
  • Colonial Bentgrass
  • Mixtures of Cool Season Species

WARM SEASON TURFGRASS

  • Common Bermudagrass
  • Hybrid Bermudagrass
  • Bahiagrass
  • Zoysiagrass
  • Buffalograss
  • St. Augustinegrass
  • Centipedegrass

Turfgrass Tolerance:

The turfgrass tolerance to Fertilome Weed Free Zone may vary and temporary turfgrass yellowing may occur on St. Augustinegrass and certain varieties of Hybrid Bermudagrass.

Fertilome Weed Free Zone may injure certain turfgrass species. To reduce the risk of lawn injury, avoid spraying drought stressed lawns or when temperatures are above 90 degrees F.

WHEN TO APPLY

Spray when broadleaf weeds are young and actively growing for best results.

Fertilome Weed Free Zone may be applied in the spring, summer, or fall.

Spring and fall treatments under adequate soil moisture conditions are preferred to the summer treatments. Generally, summer broadcast applications to older, drought-stressed weeds are less effective.

Broadcast (entire areas) applications or follow-up applications at 2-6 week intervals are recommended for more mature weeds, for dense infestations, and for adverse environmental conditions.

Spot treatments during summer may be appropriate for sparse infestations, or as a follow-up treatment, or any time broadleaf weeds are susceptible.

CULTURAL TIPS FOR IMPROVED CONTROL

Irrigation:

  • Do not apply this product immediately before rainfall or irrigation. Rain or watering within 4 hours after treatment may reduce effectiveness.

Mowing:

  • Delay mowing 1 to 2 days before and after the application of this product.

Reseeding Interval:

  •  Treated areas may be reseeded 2 weeks after application.

THREE EASY STEPS TO MIX AND APPLY

  1. Determine (measure) the lawn area to be sprayed. Calculate square feet by multiplying the length by width. The application rate for this product is presented as fl. oz. (tablespoons) per 1,000 sq. ft. of lawn.
  2. Use hand-operated sprayers (backpack sprayers, compression sprayers, knapsack sprayers or tank type) or hose end sprayers. Carefully measure and mix the proper amount of product with water. See below for instructions for the various types of sprayers.
  3. Spray evenly over the lawn.

    Great Product!!

    By Tony on 04/28/2011

Weed Free Zone is the best weed killer I have ever used. Not only does it work flawlessly, but the weeds are brown and shriveled in as little as two days. Sure it's pricey, but it WORKS. So many times I have tried other weed killers from companies such as Ortho, like you get at a home center, and it takes forever to kill the weeds. WFZ is the champion of weed killers in my book. Not the most environmentally friendly product out there, but when you need weeds killed and killed fast, you can't beat WFZ.

The Eradication of Creeping Charlie (ground Ivy) by FWFZ

    By Robert on 10/06/2011

    Verified Purchase

I was pointed toward Fertilome Weed Free Zone by my next door neighbor. I have applied one spraying with hand pump sprayer and noticed instant results and had to respray very little on second application. It is remarkable how fast it acts and kills the creeping charlie which is the hardest most evasive weed on my property. I highly recommend this product and will be buying more from DoMyOwnPestControl.com. Thanks, R.Y.

    Weed Free Zone

    By Larry on 08/15/2011

    Verified Purchase

Weed Free Zone is the only product that I have found that will control wild violets in my grass. But, it does take more than one application especially on older, more mature plants. Of course it works great on the regular broad leaf weeds too. Don't forget to use a surfactant so that the product will wet the leaves.

    Ferilome

    By John on 06/02/2012

This is the only thing we have found that controls creeping charlie. It is expensive but better than killing all the grass and starting over like our neighbor did.

    Weed Free Zone for Dandelions

    By Daryl on 05/08/2011

I have been using this Fertilome Weed Free Zone on Dandelions for three years. I have been individually hand spraying them because they said not to use a broadcast sprayer. Applying it is in the spring and twice in September as instructed. I have more than when I started. I think it actually multiplies them. It does not appear to have any killing affect on dandelions at all. Very high cost for very poor performance. Recommend not wasting your money.

Q
I might be missing it, but does the label on Fertilome Weed Free Zone not give water rates per fluid ounce?

If I want to broadcast treat St. Augustine at a rate of 1.5 fl. oz per 1,000 square feet how much water do I use per 1.5 fl. oz?

A
The reason there are not exact water rates is because water just acts as the carrier. It is however much water it takes for you to disperse 1.5 ounces over 1000 square feet. With that said, we generalize that 1 gallon will treat approx. 1000.
