    05/29/2017
    Q
Is it safe to allow my animals (horses & chickens) to graze on grass and forage treated with Sevin Granules?
I know to water in and let dry, but should I wait longer before allowing my animals to graze on treated areas? Or, is it safe at all for them? The chickens especially will be eating both grass/forage and bugs. Should I only treat areas that they will not be grazing on?
    A

Per the manufacturer, Sevin Granules are meant for use on residential lawns and not pasture areas. However, since the product is not a systemic, it will not affect your grass. As long as the area is dry, it is safe for animals to be in the area. However, we cannot recommend that animals graze in ar…

  • Asked by Amanda from Pelham, Alabama
    05/21/2019
    Q
Can I still use Sevin Insecticide Granules if my lawn has a chigger problem but I also need to aerate and overseed?
We're in the southeast, so it's time to aerate and overseed especially since weeds and bare spots are trying to take over, but I have to do something about these chiggers and other insects because my family is getting feasting on when we try to go outside! Everything I'm reading is saying insecticides will damage grass seeds germination process, so what do I do first and how long should I wait before doing the other?
    A

You should not be concerned about insecticides interfering with grass seed. The main concern would be when you plan to disturb the soil. For example, we would not recommend that you spray a residual insecticide and then immediately aerate or till the area you just sprayed. Onslaught Insecticide is a…

    Q
Does the lawn need to be dry?
    A

Watering the Sevin granules in is what activates the granules. If it is going to rain close to the time you are applying the granules that will be fine too. Failure to water in the granules can lead to treatment failure because the chemical cannot be released from the granule and will not be av…
