Talstar P is labeled to be used in food handling establishments and food handling areas but all of the food prep surfaces and food products and utensils must be covered and the application must be kept to cracks and crevices only. Just make sure it does not come in contact with dishes, food, etc. It's intended to be used in cracks & crevices so make sure you are using it on the edges of the counter, not broadcasting it.

Is this product safe around plants and shrubs?

Talstar P Professional Insecticide should not harm plants or other ornamentals. Just do not apply during the hottest time of the day to ensure it does not damage them due to heat. Remember it cannot be applied to anything edible.

Do I need to go outside after spraying Talstar P?
After spraying Talstar P, you said to wait for it to dry completely before coming back into the room, how long does it usually take?

A

Everyone will need to be out of the area while Talstar is being applied, but it will be safe for them to return as soon as everything is dry (usually 1-2 hours).

How long does the product last?
If I apply 1 oz to 1 gallon of water and apply it to my yard in April before the fire ants begin to surface. How long should I expect it to last? October? My goal is to spray in April and not have to spray before the cold weather arrives. Should I mix it a little stronger? 1 1/2 oz per gallon? Thanks for your help.

The highest rate for Talstar P Professional Insecticide is 1 oz per gallon of water and if sprayed on the grass it should be reapplied every 30 days. Fire ant treatments on the label are as follows:

For Ant and Fire Ant Mounds control is optimized by combining broadcast applications that will control foraging workers and newly mated fly-in queens with mound drenches that will control existing colonies. If the soil is not moist, then it is important to irrigate before application or use a high volume application. Apply broadcast treatments at 0.6 to 1 fluid oz. per 1,000 square feet. Use enough finished volume to penetrate thatch or sod. Treat mounds by applying 1 fl oz Talstar P Professional per mound in 1 to 2 gallons water by sprinkling the mound until it is wet and treat 3 feet out around the mound. Use the higher volume for mounds larger than 12”. Treat mounds with sufficient force to break their apex and allow the insecticide solution to flow into the ant tunnels.

Talstar P only mentions applications to concrete/porous surfaces when treating specifically for ants on the product label. For ants around concrete areas it is best to treat the ground in the surrounding areas instead.

Use application volumes of up to 10 gallons per 1000 square feet to get uniform coverage when treating dense and or long turf foliage.

Talstar P is not labeled for cut and squirt methods or tree injections. Safari 20SG would an alternative recommendation for basal bark applications. Please view the product label for more information.

What sort of protective clothing, other than a face covering is required?
When it comes to applying this product, what sort of protective gear should I be wearing? I'm going to be using it for brown recluse spiders, and as I read through some of the Q&As, I think it was mentioned that this is only supposed to be applied to baseboards. Is that correct? Can it be applied to the carpet underneath my bed? Will it stain the carpet it comes into contact with?

Per the Talstar P label, when applying mixed solution, the applicator needs to wear shirt, shoes, socks, pants and waterproof gloves. If applying in a non-ventilated area, applicator will need to wear a resperatory mask. You may look at our Basic Safety Kit for the necessary protective gear.

You can apply as a crack and crevice treatment and to baseboards as mentioned. It is also approved for "spot spray to areas where pests hide, such as baseboards, corners, storage areas, closets, around water pipes, doors and windows, attics and eaves, behind and under refrigerators, cabinets, sinks, furnaces, stoves, the underside of shelves, drawers and similar areas." It would not be suspected to stain carpet, however, you can always perform a spot test in an inconspicuous area if needed.

Southern pine Beetles are taking over here in north Alabama I’ve been forced to cut 80 acres of large pine tree all ready and now the beetles are in the younger trees (12 year old) and moving fast,I’ve been looking for something to spray with wanted some recommendations for what to spray with i been using Permethrin 36.8% around the farm for years and it works great for all other bugs

Unfortunately, there is no easy solution when it comes to pine beetles. Infected trees should be cut down (before the newly hatched beetles fly out of the trees in the spring/summer) and the wood burned or chipped, while other still healthy trees should be sprayed annually to protect them. Because of the natural boring behavior of the beetle, they are protected from topically applied insecticides, and systemic insecticides (those injected into the tree or applied as a root drench) have proven ineffective for pine beetle infestations. Healthy trees can be protected before the beetles attack by topically spraying them with a synthetic pyrethroid like Talstar. The tree should be sprayed from the ground to 15 ft up the trunk to prevent future infestations. You should contact your local cooperative extension office to find out the best time to start spraying in your region.

Most of the time you can apply all of those types of products together and apply them at the same time so long as all the products label of the items you are using allow tank mixing.
We would suggest using something like a fungicide by itself unless you have insect and disease damage occurring to the lawn at the same time (as in grubs, chinch bugs, etc), otherwise mix those together for applying.

Talstar P Professional Insecticide cannot be fogged but should not harm artificial turf. However, since manufacturers have likely not tested on artificial turf it is recommended to test on a small area first
