  • Asked by Jerry from Heath, Texas
    07/28/2021
    Q
Can I use a tank sprayer to treat under a 700 sq ft deck that has no access to trench under with Taurus SC Termiticide?
    Suggestions?
    A

If you are targeting subterranean termites, spraying the area will not be an effective treatment as the termites will be usually somewhere within the top 4-5 inches of the soil. Taurus only will bind with the soil when applied using the trenching method correctly. Please be sure to review the product label for more information and complete application instructions.

If you are unable to remove a couple of the boards of the deck close to the structure to get underneath to continue the full trench around the perimeter, the next option would be to use termite bait stations in the area such as the Advance Termite Bait System Kit

    Q
I bought Taurus SC Termiticide about 5 years ago. It has sat on a shelf in my garage. Would it still be usable?
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide has a shelf life of 3-5 years from the date of purchase when stored in a cool dry area.

If this has been exposed to extreme heat or freezing temperatures, it would no longer be effective in addition to the length of time you've had the product.

    Q
Could a permanent drip line around the structure with an RV pump to deploy the mixed solution of Taurus SC in a 55 gallon drum be used for termite prevention? The solution would easily soak about 1 foot deep in the ground and the line would be available for future applications.
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide is not labeled for this type of application nor would it be recommended for termite barrier treatments in place the trench method.

Please review our How to Treat for Subterranean Termite Guide for step by step instructions on the trench method which will last for 10 years in the soil when applied per the product label.

    Q
Can Taurus SC Termiticide be used to treat an old firewood pile infested with termites and ants? Can this also be used as a preventative application to prevent further damage?
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide cannot be applied directly to firewood. Burning the wood will kill any possible insects in the wood. If the wood will be burned outdoors only (not indoors), then you could apply Talstar P on the firewood as long as it is not burned for at least 30 days after the application.

For treating the soil/ground area, Talstar P or Dominion 2L could be applied to the ground/soil where the firewod pile is located, once that application has completely dried you can then stack the firewood on a rack or other structure up off the ground or on top of a barrier to prevent similar issues in the future.

  • Asked by Brian from Hilton Head Island, Sc
    08/30/2021
    Q
The Taurus SC Termiticide claims to last 10 years in the soil however the instructions say that it can be applied 2 to 4 times a year depending on the concentration mix. I am confused, are multiple applications per year required to achieve the 5-10 year residual? The professional companies don't trench, they just inject I think. Can I get some equipment and just inject Taurus SC?
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide can be applied once per 10 years if applying in a soil trench and drilled holes against the foundation for a subterranean termite application. It can also be applied topically to the foundation in a 1 ft by 1 ft band for insects that crawl such as ants 2-4 times per year depending on concentration. The equipment used by professionals requires a rig which most homeowners do not have access to. Please take a few moments to review our treatment article/videos for more details and pro tips here.

    Q
Can Taurus SC Termiticide be used for roaches?
I am looking for a non repellent as I've used Advion and did not work.
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide cannot be used indoors for roach control. The best way to eradicate roaches in the home is to use a combination of a residual spray, roach bait and insect growth regulator. Sanitation is key to a successful roach treatment, the chemicals can only do so much so you need to be aggressive and consistent with treating.

We have put all the necessary products in Roach Control Kits that provide enough product for the initial treatment and follow up treatments that are required every 10-14 days. The kits are set up on a rotation program to prevent roaches from developing any bait resistance. Rotation Kit A is a good clean out treatment to start with for an aggressive approach to treatment. After 90 days, you can rotate to Kit B or Kit C if continued treatments are necessary.

Please view our Roach Treatment Guide for more information or tips for effective roach control.

    Q
Which treatment frequency for Taurus SC Termiticide has better results?
I am curious to know if anyone has experience with which frequency works best for the product? The 2x a year or 4x a year? My concern is if I go with the 2x a year application will the product break down too quickly lose its effectiveness at the end of the window. Thanks!
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide when used as a general surface spray around the foundation of the structure, rather than as a termite treatment, will only hold up to the outdoor elements about 30-90 days much like most insecticides on the market. UV rays, rain, and other environmental factors will break the product down on the surface over time. You could potentially get a 2 month residual out of each application, but it all depends on the outdoor elements in that time frame. Often, customers see the effects of a transfer insecticide like Taurus for longer than its actually still present on the surface, as it can eliminate large insect colonies that will take longer to build back up to a level you need to spray for again. You can also do a combo of two applications at 0.4 oz per gallon each time, and a single application at 0.8 oz per gallon if you wanted, as well as the options you mentioned. Ideally you would want to use Taurus for an active pest problem since it has the delayed kill and transfer effect most beneficial in those scenarios. If you are doing general insect prevention, an insecticide that kills faster and allows for more uses per year and more usage areas in and around the home would be a better choice. There are many options for this, such as Temprid FX, which will still provide some transfer effect for colony pests like ants and roaches, but will provide a faster kill on other insects in the area and create more of a preventative barrier.

    Q
Can Taurus SC Termiticide be used indoors for ants? Can I apply under the kitchen sink and dishwasher?
Last winter, I had so many ants in the kitchen. Since it was freezing outside, thy must have a nest in the house.
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide cannot be applied inside unless you are directly spot treating an active nest of ants in the wood they are infesting.  It is not just sprayed around areas for general control inside.  Inside you can use a product Phantom Aerosol in cracks and crevices which will work like Taurus with a transfer effect and being non repellent, but safe for inside use as directed on the label.

    Q
Can Taurus SC be poured over stone around the house so that is seeps through to the soil underneath? Would this treatment be effective?
    A

If using Taurus SC Termiticide for Subterranean Termite trench applications, you must dig a 6 in x 6 in trench direclty against the foundation of the home per the product label. If there are landscape stones, gravel, barriers, etc that are in the path of the trench and these are not able to be removed to dig a continuous trench, we would recommend digging the trench up to the stone in your case and then continue on the other side. Pour the 4 gallons of mixed solution (3.2 fl oz Taurus SC with 4 gallons of water) every 10 linear feet and if able, uses a steel rod to prob under the stone as best as you can on both sides so the mixed solution can leach under the stone.
If using Taurus SC Termiticide for exterior perimeter treatment of carpenter ants, roaches, spiders, etc, mix 0.8fl oz per gallon of water. Spray 1ft up and 1ft out from the foundation, around windows, doors, under the eaves of the roof, etc. Do not spray landcape beds, ornamentals, bushes, shrubs, etc.

    Q
Can I use the rest of my garden to grow vegetables?
I used Taurus solution few weeks ago, on few spots on my garden to treat ants colony and I need to know if I can use the rest of the garden to grow vegetables or fruits trees? What's the recommended distance from the treated areas to the areas where I can grow my vegetables? Many thanks
    A
Taurus SC Termiticide is not labeled for use out in lawns for mound treatments nor around anything edible.  Applications are only approved adjacent to structures in a trench for termites or sprayed 1-2 feet up and out for general pests only and should be kept at least 15 feet from anything edible.  It can persist in the soil for up to 10 years or more.  We would recommend reaching out to the manufacturer directly for advise regarding planting in the area since Taurus was used off label, Control Solutions 281-892-2500.

    Q
What needs to be done when applying Taurus SC for termites at a school?
    A

We apologize but cannot comment on that other than to say to use as directed on the Taurus SC Termiticide product label. Every county has a list of approved insecticides to use inside schools and daycares. You should contact your local department of agriculture to get a copy of the approved product list for your county and ap. We apologize but are unable to make a recommendation for this reason
