Product Overview

For serious mouse problems you can't go wrong with the Tin Cat Repeating Mouse Trap (Model M308). The Tin Cat Mouse Trap is a live-catch trap that is easy to use, catches up to 30 mice at a time, and requires no setting. Simply place the trap along a wall where mice like to travel and it is ready to go. Inquisitive mice will enter the trap, triggering a lever that will trap them in a holding area inside. They can get in, but there is no way out until you release them. Also available in Poly and Solid Top versions. Dimensions: 10.25" x 6.25" x 1.75".

Optional add-on: Many customers want the repeating catch capability of the Tin Cat but don't want to deal with live mice. In this case, we suggest that you also buy Tin Cat Glue Boards, which fit perfectly inside the Tin Cat. The mice will stick to the glue board and eventually die. The glue boards provide for easier disposal of the mice.

How to Use the Victor Tin Cat Mouse Trap (Video)

Tin Cats (MODEL - M308) have a very low profile (only 1.75 inches tall) allowing them to be placed in tight areas or under pallets. A clear lid on top of the trap allows easy viewing of your catch. Tin cats are perfect for the home or for larger areas such as farms, chicken houses, warehouses, etc.

Mice like to travel along walls and not across large open areas. Place the Tin Cat repeating mouse trap along a baseboard or in a corner. When the area to be controlled is large, the infestation is severe, or to increase the effectiveness of the traps, place several Tin Cats along the walls about 10-15 feet apart.

1. Place the Tin Cat trap lengthwise against wall or object with entrance holes nearest to that surface.

2. Use peanut butter or other typical mouse bait in the inside chamber to attract mice. (One customer put a dab at the top of the ramps and had great success!)

One very important thing to remember: it may take the mouse 1-2 weeks to become familiar enough with the tin cat, before it attempts to enter. At first the mouse may just go around the Tin Cat or run on top. However, once the mouse knows the trap isn’t going anywhere, it will be confident enough to go through the trap. Mice are very cautious about new things in their environment.

Tin Cat Features:
· No wind up required
· Fits where other traps won’t—only 1.75 inches high
· Lid opens lengthwise for easier service
· Entry housings can be removed for thorough cleaning
· Reduced alleyway beside housing to eliminate hiding place for mice
· Holds up to 30 mice
· Test holes in entry housing to check catch mechanism
· Clear lid M308 easier and quicker to inspect than solid top models
· May be used in FDA and USDA inspected plants
· Service record label packed inside each trap

    Excellent garage/basement/outdoor low-maintenance trap!

    By Mark on 08/08/2011

We bought two of these a few years back before they had the see-thru windows, and they've been great... we put dry corn in them, which our mice apparently love. We can set them out & leave them for days at a time without checking, and when we come back, sometimes we've had as many as eight mice in a single trap! There's no point in relocating mice, they'll just find their way back and you'll have to keep relocating them over & over again, or else you'll have to keep relocating their kids & grandkids, etc. Best way to handle 'em is to drop the whole trap in a bucket of water, come back 15 min later & empty it into the trash. Mice are NOT "cute"... they carry disease and do millions of $$$ of property damage yearly, duh.

Easiest and best trap so far!

    By Linda on 01/03/2007

This Victor Tin Cat mouse trap really works great! I've been having mouse problems on and off and tried the single live trap; which worked fine in the beginning. Had to try other methods that I will never do again. I like to relocate them not kill them. Searched on the Internet and found this trap.  A couple of nights and I caught two mice. I've had it two weeks and caught and released 7 mice. For me giving them another chance is the way to go! Thank you this is a great product that has no mechanism that the mouse can trap himself into. I think this one is the easiest and best trap so far!

    Not satisfied

    By Cindy on 04/11/2012

    Verified Purchase

I bought three traps to use at a house I'm trying to get ready to rent. The first day I used them, I caught only one mouse. However, since then I have noticed that the bait is getting eaten and the mice are escaping. I know that mice have been in there because of the droppings they've left behind. I have tried several things to prevent escape, including covering the air holes with screen and covering over any possible exits. Nothing has worked. The only possible excape route is back through the way they came in.

    Like the "live catch" option

    By T.r. on 01/04/2008

I ordered two Victor Tin Cat Mouse Trap live traps to get a family of field mice out of my garage! They worked quite well. The mice are gone - within a week I got all four of them. I sealed up a hole they were getting in - no evidence of any more. I liked that the traps gave me a "live catch" option.

Q
How do I test holes to entry housing to make sure the Victor Tin Cat is working properly?
A
This is complicated to explain via email but we will do our best. If you open the lid to the Victor Tin cat you will see the two mechanisms that are the "traps". The doors only work one way. As the mice enter the trap the lever acts as a see-saw. The inner lever goes down allowing them to enter the trap as the back lever lifts up from their weight not allow them to back up. Once inside the trap the lever goes back to the original position keeping the mice inside. you can test the lever with your fingers as if you are a mouse coming in. It doesn't snap on you, it will just change the position of the lever. If you need clearer information please call us 1-866-581-7378

Q
What bait do I use to catch mice in a Victor Tin Cat Mouse Trap M308?
A

Popular attractants for mice on snap traps or in live traps such as the Victor Tin Cat Mouse Trap M308 include pet food, canned meat, bacon, nuts, cereal, peanut butter, or formulated attractants such as Provoke Mouse Attractant or Propest Rat and Mouse Lure. Rodent attractants typically do not contain major food allergens.

Q
Can the Victor Tin Cat Mouse Trap be used for trapping lizards as well?

I have geckos/lizards all over the house, especially outside. I know they are good bug eaters, but I would prefer bugs over them. Please let me know if they can also be placed outside with the glue traps. Thanks

A
The Victor Tin Cat Mouse Trap can be used outdoors with glue traps inside. They probably would not work very well to catch lizards, however. The lizard would need to go into the trap and weigh down the ramp and then enter the trap to be captured. A better choice would be to purchase glue boards such as the Catchmaster 72 MB that can simply be folded up to form a tunnel. If you have a situation where you need to have the glue boards enclosed, you could use the Protecta Pest Monitors. Protecta Pest Monitor is a reusable, plastic monitoring box used with Protecta MC Glue boards (sold separately). This trap has openings that allow everything from insects, lizards to mice to enter.

Q
Mice don't trigger snap traps-- will the Victor Tin Cat Mouse Trap work?

I have been unsuccessful in using several varieties of snap traps as the mice lick them clean without triggering them-- even just tiny dabs of lure or peanut butter. I don't mind live trapping and wonder if this product may be the direction I need to go.

A
Yes, if you are wanting to go with a live trap then the Victor Tin Cat Mouse Trap M308 would be a good one to use.  Another option on a snap trap if you haven't tried already is the Revenge Press & Set Mouse Traps that has a bait well instead of a pedal and would be harder for them to just eat and run.

Q
Will I ever get to a point where I'm not catching any more mice with the Victor Tin Cat Mouse Trap M308?

I am regularly catching mice with the Victor Tin Cat Mouse Trap purchased from you in April, at least 1 per day. The mice are full-grown. I have stuffed stainless steel wool into crevices where utilities enter the house, but am worried they are still finding a way in. The worst infestation is in my kitchen cupboards and under-sink area, which is where I put the trap. No food is stored there (I have a separate pantry for that, and I have not seen mice or mice droppings there). I do keep a covered compost jug under the sink and have continued to do that, thinking it will attract the mice, who then find the baited trap. Could I have had an infestation of 200+ mice? Any suggestions?

A

You should continue trapping with the Victor Tin Cat Mouse Trap as long as you still see mouse activity. We would suggest using multiple traps, but if you are happy with what you have so far, then you may continue with that plan. Mice breed quickly and do not require much food to thrive, so it is common to underestimate a population. Mice can fit through openings that are only 1/4" in diameter, so continuing to check for ways to exclude them is very important. You should remove any possible food source, including the compost bin, from the area where you have seen mouse activity. We would also recommend using bait in tamper-resistant bait stations around the perimeter of the home to prevent more outside populations from entering the structure. Our Rodent Baiting Kit contains 6 x stations and a 4 lb. pail of Gladiator bait blox that are excellent for both mice and rats. Please see our articles about Mouse Inspection and Mouse Treatment for more information and tips.
