Yes, the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap can be used over and over again. In fact, once you catch a rat on this trap it will be even more effective because it will have the scent pheromone of a rat which is very curious to other rodents.
The sensitivity cannot be adjusted, but if they are taking the bait and not tripping the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap then usually this means you are putting too much bait in the bait cup. You should place only 1 small drop in the bottom of the bait cup so the rodents really have to "get into the cup" and usually this will result in a set trigger. You can also try a tiny dab of something a little stickier that may result in better results depending on the behavior of the rodents.
There is not a way to adjust the set hold on the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap. You should be able to push down the back end and it will click into place. There is a video on the product page that is helpful if you're having any issues. If the trap still will not set once you've watched the video, please call us at 1-866-581-7378.
It is important that the property is addressed as a whole in order to reduce the number of rats. Tamper resistant rodent bait stations loaded with bait such as Fastrac blox will help reduce the level of rats on the property to a more manageable level. These products can be purchased together in our Rodent Control Kits. To protect individual vehicles you may want to consider using Trapper T Rex Rat traps beneath the vehicle and resting on the vehicle tires overnight.
The Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap can be used indoors in a home with pets. The trap should be used in places not readily accessible to pets or in tamper resistant stations.
The Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap is meant for use on rats, but could be used for chipmunks as well. It is too large a trap and not sensitive enough to trap mice. If it's mouse control that you are needing, then we would suggest getting the Mini T-Rex Mouse Snap Traps.
We have a video here that outlines how to set/re-set the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap.
The Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap may attract chipmunks if there is a desirable edible in the bait cup. We would recommend using traps in areas where you have rodent activity where the chipmunks will not come in contact with it.
The Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap is only going to be effective on rats; it will not work on mice as it is too large for them. If you are needing a trap for mice as well, consider using the Mini T-Rex Mouse Traps. You can use nuts, nesting material like a small piece of cotton, or small amounts of nutella in the trap for bait. For more tips, please take a few moments to review our online Mouse Treatment Guide and Rat Treatment Guide.
The Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap can be placed in tamper resistant rat stations such as the Protecta Rat Bait Station to offer safety for dogs.
A bait cup in the center of the trigger pedal makes it easy to add baits to the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap. You can see this in our video here.
Rats caught in the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap are usually killed pretty quickly. How you dispose of the rat will vary from region to region, but in most cases you will simply squeeze the trap to release the dead rat directly into a plastic bag, seal the bag and toss in an outdoor trash can.
When baiting rodents with something like the T-Rex Snap Trap you have a variety of options. If they are already attracted to something in the environment (ie: fruit trees, vegetable garden, pet food/pantry in the home) you normally catch them the fastest using those same materials. Often rodents are looking for nesting materials like cotton, so using a dot of Elmer's glue and putting the cotton ball down in the bait cup can help attract them, as well as force the rodent to tug on the trap a little ensuring it sets on the rodents head. Other items that they find alluring over the traditional peanut butter or cheese options include wet cat food, tuna packets/cans, cookies, small pieces of fruit, bread with drops of vanilla on it, etc.
