    Q
Best way to rid attic in our house of rats?
I don't want to use poison and have rotting rat carcasses in my attic.
    A
The best way to get rid of the rats that are already in your attic is to trap them with rat snap traps, rat glue boards and/or live catch rat traps. We do not recommend using poison baits indoors because after the rats eat the bait they may go into an inaccessible area to die causing a terrible odor and possibly even a secondary insect infestation (it is a myth that there is a poison bait that will cause the rats to dry out and not smell or to leave the house in search of water). It is important that you place the traps directly in the rats travel path and bait them with an attractive bait such as nuts, dog kibble, canned tuna or peanut butter. Be patient, it could take several days or even a couple of weeks before the rats are comfortable enough with the traps to approach them and be captured. After you have eliminated your current infestation you must take the time to exclude rodents from entering your home in the future. Q
Can the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap be used more than once?
    A

Yes, the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap can be used over and over again.  In fact, once you catch a rat on this trap it will be even more effective because it will have the scent pheromone of a rat which is very curious to other rodents.

    Q
Will a rat visit the trap again once it is sprung?
    A
Yes. Often times the pheromone left behind by rodents that have already visited the trap will help draw other rodents to it. Be sure to add fresh bait to help lure the rodents in. If you have a rat that has managed to set off the trap but did not get caught (very rare with the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap) you may want to disguise the trap a bit to avoid a rat that is trap shy. You can simply place the trap inside of a shoebox with holes cut on either end to allow the rat to enter. This will look different to the rat and the rat will usually not avoid the trap inside.

    Q
Smart rats: Can I adjust the sensitivity of a T-Tex Rat Trap trigger?
Last weekend, I placed six pairs of T-Rex traps, baited with Provoke, back-to-back on rat runways in my crawlspace, along with a dozen rat glue traps. Net result: 0 kills/captures, but the bait's been cleaned out twice. These rats are exhibiting a real nuanced touch, and a healthy appetite. Any advice?
    A

The sensitivity cannot be adjusted, but if they are taking the bait and not tripping the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap then usually this means you are putting too much bait in the bait cup.  You should place only 1 small drop in the bottom of the bait cup so the rodents really have to "get into the cup" and usually this will result in a set trigger.  You can also try a tiny dab of something a little stickier that may result in better results depending on the behavior of the rodents.

    Q
Is the rat dead inside the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap? Is he maimed? How do you dispose of it?
    A
Rats caught in the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap are usually killed pretty quickly. How you dispose of the rat will vary from region to region, but in most cases you will simply squeeze the trap to release the dead rat directly into a plastic bag, seal the bag and toss in an outdoor trash can.

    Q
Can the T-Rex trap and kill a fox squirrel?
I have a problem with fox squirrels eating my avocados. I need a trap that can do the job without leaving them alive. It is against the law to release this invasive species back into the wild.
    A
Many of our customers have reported that they have successfully used the Trapper T-Rex Rat Traps to kill squirrels. We are not familiar with Fox squirrels but we assume that they are about the size of a rat  which would mean that the Trapper T Rex Rat Trap should be able to successfully trap and kill this species. Some communities do have ordinances that prevent you from trapping and killing squirrels so we encourage you to check with the local authorities to be that you are acting within their guidelines.

    Q
Can the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap be used outdoors without limitation?
Can the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap be used outdoors without limitation? Are there MSDS and labels for this product, if so where?
    A
The Trapper T-Rex Rat Traps can be used outdoors at your discretion. When using outdoors you should place the traps out of reach of children and non-target animals or place the traps in tamper resistant bait stations to avoid accidents. There is no MSDS sheet for the T-Rex as it is not a chemical product. Usage directions will be included with the purchase and we have a T-Rex product video available on the T-Rex page that shows step by step how to use the trap properly.

    Q
Excrement dropping appeared in the basement wall under an exterior vent. I do not know what they are from.
Excrement droppings were found on the painted cinder block wall 4' off the ground, just below an unopened exterior vent. There are approximately 50 pieces, each being between 3/4 to 1 inch in length, and very thin, approximately .7mm. The tips of each end are sharp, and not blunt. There are no droppings on the floor, and the droppings appear to adhere to the wall. On the wall above, below, and to each side, I put up 8"X12" catchmaster glue boards, and on the vent opening, I lined the ledge with mice snap traps. I have caught nothing on the glue boards and the mice traps have not been disturbed in over a week. I can supply a picture of the dropping on the wall with a dime held up to give a relevant comparison. Any help you give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and effort in this endeavor.
    A
The droppings that you are describing sound like roof Rat Droppings. Roof Rat Droppings are described as "at least 3/4 inch long with pointed ends". Roof rats cannot be caught with mouse glueboards or mouse snap traps. We do carry Rat Glue Board Traps and Rat Snap Traps that would be more suited to this job. Baiting the traps with canned cat food or tuna fish, nuts, small pieces of floss or cotton balls (nesting materials) may also help to draw this species of rat into the traps. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

My Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap won't set.
Is there a way to adjust the set hold?
    A

There is not a way to adjust the set hold on the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap.  You should be able to push down the back end and it will click into place.  There is a video on the product page that is helpful if you're having any issues.  If the trap still will not set once you've watched the video, please call us at 1-866-581-7378.

    Q
What can I do for rats under the hood of my vehicle?
    A

It is important that the property is addressed as a whole in order to reduce the number of rats. Tamper resistant rodent bait stations loaded with bait such as Fastrac blox will help reduce the level of rats on the property to a more manageable level. These products can be purchased together in our Rodent Control Kits. To protect individual vehicles you may want to consider using Trapper T Rex Rat traps beneath the vehicle and resting on the vehicle tires overnight.

    Q
Is the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap also effective on mice and other smaller rodents?
    A

The Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap is meant for use on rats, but could be used for chipmunks as well. It is too large a trap and not sensitive enough to trap mice. If it's mouse control that you are needing, then we would suggest getting the Mini T-Rex Mouse Snap Traps.

    Q
I don't want to kill my chipmunks. Will they be drawn to the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap also?
    A

The Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap may attract chipmunks if there is a desirable edible in the bait cup. We would recommend using traps in areas where you have rodent activity where the chipmunks will not come in contact with it.

    Q
Can the Trapper T-Rex Rat trap be use for mice and rats?
I have a big rat and how do I out smart the mouse and is there a certain way I have to bait the trap to get the rat
    A

The Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap is only going to be effective on rats; it will not work on mice as it is too large for them.  If you are needing a trap for mice as well, consider using the Mini T-Rex Mouse Traps.   You can use nuts, nesting material like a small piece of cotton, or small amounts of nutella in the trap for bait. For more tips, please take a few moments to review our online Mouse Treatment Guide and Rat Treatment Guide.

    Q
How do you bait the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap?
I would like to pre-bait these traps. Is there anyway I can set these traps and lock them in the set position so they will not trigger when the pressure plate is stepped on?
    A

A bait cup in the center of the trigger pedal makes it easy to add baits to the Trapper T-Rex Rat Trap.  You can see this in our video here.

  • Asked by Nathan from Deland Florida

    Q
What bait is the most effective bait to use with the T Rex rodent trap?
    A

When baiting rodents with something like the T-Rex Snap Trap you have a variety of options. If they are already attracted to something in the environment (ie: fruit trees, vegetable garden, pet food/pantry in the home) you normally catch them the fastest using those same materials. Often rodents are looking for nesting materials like cotton, so using a dot of Elmer's glue and putting the cotton ball down in the bait cup can help attract them, as well as force the rodent to tug on the trap a little ensuring it sets on the rodents head. Other items that they find alluring over the traditional peanut butter or cheese options include wet cat food, tuna packets/cans, cookies, small pieces of fruit, bread with drops of vanilla on it, etc.
