This product may only be applied against the pests listed on the label, and by the application methods listed on this label. This product may only be used to control pocket gophers in manual, below-ground applications in lawns. Bait must be applied directly into burrow or tunnel systems. Do not apply in gardens and areas where food or feed may become contaminated. Any person who retrieves carcasses or used bait following application of this product must wear waterproof gloves. APPLICATION DIRECTIONS FOR POCKET GOPHERS
Apply bait to control pocket gophers using one of the two
methods outlined below:
PLUG REMOVAL BAITING:
Burrowing pocket gophers
(thomomys spp. and Geomys spp.) throw out low, fan shaped
mounds on either side of their underground tunnel. These
lateral tunnels coming to the surface are on the flat side
of the fan and are plugged with soil. Using a long-handled
spoon, carefully remove the plug. Insert one teaspoon of
bait as far down as possible. Reclose opening, being careful
not to cover bait with soil.
MAIN RUNWAY BAITING:
To locate main runways,
probe about 6 to 8 inches away from mounds by use of an
iron bar, a strong stick, or other suitable implement.
Resistance on probe will drop suddenly and probe will fall
about two inches when main runway is entered. Carefully
enlarge the opening to accomodate insertion of the bait.
Insert one teaspoon of bait into each active tunnel. Carefully
close the hole with a stone, sod, or soil. Take care not to cover
bait with soil.
FOLLOW UP
Wearing waterproof gloves, collect and dispose of all dead, exposed
animals and of leftover bait in accordance with disposal instructions.
Use detergent and hot water to wash spoons. Do not use spoons for
mixing, holding or transferring food or feed. If reinfesation does occur,
repeat treatment

I bought a less expensive gopher bait applicator from Amazon, but that unit tended to clog, and the mechanism tended to not fully close completely because the grain got stuck in the opening. Also loading it with bait was a mess. The Wilco unit was almost 3x expensive and I did not want to spend that much, but in the end, it is a better design and I am much happier. The tip is sharper, it keeps the dirt from packing in the end and clogging things. When you are ready to dispense, you retract the tip and the bait falls downward. Another great feature is the way the unit is loaded with bait which is brilliant! No scooping, or dropping stuff. You just thread the bait container onto the applicator and go. I used the unit itself to find the tunnels, but should probably first use a separate tool to find the tunnel and create a plot hole as the instructions say. This is because you are pushing a larger diameter tube in the hard ground and so it is harder to tell when you have reached the tunnel.
