While this will certainly help with the brown patch, it likely will not give you control over your grubs as this is the wrong season to treat for them. Caravan G is save for use on all lawns incuding St Augustine. While this will certainly help with the brown patch, it likely will not give you control over your grubs as this is the wrong season to treat for them. Grubs should be treated for May through June and sometimes into July. This time of year the grubs are going to not be feeding on the lawn as much and are in a life stage that is harder to control before they go deeper in the ground for the winter. While it may help with some of the population of the grubs while treating your brown patch, it will not give full control in the lawn. We recommend doing another application around the beginning of May to try and kill them before they emerge.

Caravan G is effective when applied at labeled rates to help prevent and control turf insects and diseases. To help prevent white grubs, apply Caravan G up to 45 days before the historical peak of adult flight for the targeted species. Irrigate within seven (7) days of application to move Caravan G into the root zone where grubs feed.

You should keep pets and other people out of the treatment area until Caravan G has been applied and watered in and the application is completely dry. Once the area is dry, then people and pets can resume regular activities.

It is possible for any insecticide, herbicide, or fertilizer such as Caravan G to cause slight burning on turf if the product is not watered in as directed. This risk is higher under the added stress of high temperatures and drought during the Summer. Many turf diseases can cause the same appearance as burning, as well. Be sure to take necessary measures to keep the turf healthy, such as ample watering. Applications are best made in the early morning, when the turf is most recovered from any stress.

Is the application rate/spreader setting the same for both products?

Can I treat my lawn with Caravan G in July?

Yes, Caravan G Insecticide Fungicide is meant to be applied May 5 and July 15. We generally recommend applying the product when temperatures are below 85 degrees or making applications in the early morning or late evening as to avoid the heat of the day.

The Caravan G may need to be reapplied around July to help catch all cycles of grubs that can emerge or feed below the soil since there are several each year. You may want to consult with your counties extension office program to find out details on when grubs and the life cycles usually hatch in your area. The Caravan G Product Label states: To help prevent white grubs, apply Caravan G up to 45 days before the historical peak of adult flight for the targeted species. Irrigate within seven (7) days of application to move Caravan G into the root zone where grubs feed. To control white grubs, apply Caravan G from egg hatch to 2nd instar. For optimum white grub control, apply Caravan G from peak adult flight through egg hatch of the primary species being targeted. Irrigate within one (1) day of application to move Caravan G into the root zone where grubs feed. Maintain adequate soil moisture before and after application for optimum control and healthy turfgrass growth. Excessively wet or dry conditions may impact the performance of Caravan G against white grubs and mole crickets. Do not mow the turf until the treated area has been irrigated or rainfall has occurred to allow for maximum and uniform uptake into the turfgrass or soil.

You should spray later in the evening when the worms are most active. You will continue to see moths, but it is only the actual worm that causes damage. The Talstar P product label recommends:

"To ensure optimum control, delay watering (irrigation) or mowing for 24 hours after application. If the grass area is being maintained at a mowing height of greater than 1 inch, then higher application rates (Up to 1 fluid oz. per 1000 square feet) may be required during periods of high pest pressure"

Brown Patch develops when there is prolonged heat and humidity, warmer temperatures at night and extended time that dew remains on the turf. If brown patch has caused damage in the past, closley monitor the lawn when weather conditions are present for development. Caravan G Insecticide Fungicide is applied at 2.0- 2.8 lbs per 1000 sq ft. Per the product label this application should be followed up with an application of Heritage G or Headway G 14-21 days after the Caravan G application if needed.
