How do I apply Crystal Blue Black Out?
Simply pour Crystal Blue colorant into your pond from the shoreline.
Will pond dyes/colorants hurt my fish?
All of Sanco's pond dyes/colorants are safe and will not cause any harm to fish. Crystal Blue and Ocean Blue are food grade dye/colorants and are 100% safe for fish, animals, recreation, irrigation. Black Out is safe for fish, animals, recreation, irrigation, but is not safe for potable water.
What time of the year is the best time to apply pond dye?
Crystal Blue, Ocean Blue, and Black Out colorants can be used in your pond during any season. Just pour the product into the pond water from the shoreline. We even recommend pouring the product over the ice as it melts.
How often should I apply colorant to my pond?
Most colorants will last in your pond approximately 30 days. You may have to add more pond dye before 30 days if you have execissive rainfall, run-off, a heavy out flow, or evaporation. If your colorant is fading you will visually be able to tell and should add more dye to the water.
Not the Quality Dye I Expected
By Greg on 04/22/2014
I purchased one gallon. I only have between 1/3 acre ft. and 1/2 acre ft. So I expected to get at least 2 treatments from one gal. After applying 1/2 gal the pond water was darker but only grey. After waiting 24 hrs I had to apply the remaining 1/2 gal. to get a blacker color. Another dye I've used is blue, retails for about $32, and I can get 3 treatments from one gallon. Also, this Blue/Black Out is slower to disperse in the water than other dyes I've used. I've watched the blue dye spread through the entire pond in 2 - 3 hrs. Even with an aerator fountain running this product took at least 12 hrs to blend/disperse completely. When it is poured into the water it does not immediately begin spreading out in an increasingly wide arc. It breaks up into several individual streaks of color that do not merge quickly. It just has an odd reluctance to disperse like other dyes, and thus it's slower.

No, Crystal Blue Black Out is safe for fish, animals, recreation, irrigation, but it is not safe for potable water.
Crystal Blue Black Out does not kill anything. It is used as a pond colorant only.
Crystal Blue Black Out is a pond colorant only, it will not clean or clear pond water. CAL FLO Liquid Limestone is labeled for use in ponds at a rate of 2 1/2 gallons per surface acre of water. If commercial spray equipment is used, add one gallon of CAL FLO to 30 gallons of water and project the dilution on to the water to be treated. If CAL FLO is applied from a boat, slowly pour CAL FLO from a moving boat, letting the motor serve as a mixer.
