One of the features of a non-repellent is that the product is undetectable by pests--they walk over it and touch it without knowing it, and then they are able to transfer the product to each other eventually wiping out the entire colony of termites or ants. Termidor SC does have a slightly longer residual in the ground. Termidor lasts about 10 years in the ground, and Dominion 2L will last around 7 years. Dominion 2L is a much better deal money wise; you can make double the amount of solution for a little more than half of the price. -

Treatments should begin in May or June and should be done every year to protect trees from the Emerald Ash Borers. Most people use a 5 gallon bucket or a large watering can to apply Dominion as a soil drench. You will need 0.1 to 0.2 fl. oz. (3 to 6 mL) of Dominion 2L per inch of trunk diameter for trees. It is recommended that you use the higher rate for boring beetles. The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per inch of trunk diameter for trees but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per inch of trunk diameter for trees. Denser soils such as clay do not accept water as readily, so the lower volume of water is suggested. Since sandy soils can accept more water, using the higher volume of water is preferred. After the soil drench has been applied you should water it in with at east 1/2 inch of water. Note: Water simply acts as a carrier and it is important that even distribution of the product is achieved. Thus, more water may be used if the applicator feels runoff will not occur and proper penetration of the root zone is achieved. For your garage, porch, patios, or other contiguous slabs against the home, you will need to get the termiticide underneath the concrete against the foundation. To do this you will need a hammer drill with a 1/2" x 18" drill bit. You drill holes throughout the concrete about 3-4 inches away from the wall or foundation, and about every 10"-12" apart. Once the holes are drilled, you fill at the same rate you did the trench, 4 gallons per 10 feet. To fill these I would recommend using the one gallon sprayer on a "pin stream" setting so you can force the liquid down the hole and not splash it everywhere. You can also use a funnel and pour the termiticide down the holes. It is difficult to get 4 gallons per 10 feet in the holes, so it is important that you use a long drill bit, at least 18" long so you can bore out enough dirt to hold the termiticide. Once the holes are filled all you need to do is patch them with a concrete patch filler you can buy at Home Depot or you can use our Trebor plugs that will close the hole with no concrete mess. -

You should apply the product at a rate of 1 gallon per 10 square feet. Some of our customers also use a 5 gallon bucket and pour the 5 gallons over 50 square foot sections which will be much faster than using a hand pump sprayer which comes out slowly. It is very important to apply more around the perimeter edges of the slab, around plumbing pipes that will come through the slab, and along expansion joints if you know where they will be. Since these are the more likely entry points of termites you want to make sure you treat more heavily around these areas. You should take general precautions when applying any product which would be to wear gloves, protect your eyes if it is windy, and treat only in the designated area where your slab will be poured. This treatment will protect your home for 7 years, after which you would want to re-apply a termiticide around the perimeter of the house as outlined in our How To Do A Termite Treatment article.

I am planning on buying the Dominion 2L product. My questions are as follows: 1. We have two cement patios/porches that are about 5-7' wide-- do I need to drill or can I just apply the Dominion on the perimeter? 2. The termite company said they were going to spray something into the walls, and they called it an HP Mister? Do I need to inject anything into the walls? The walls are insulated so I assume the foam products wouldn't work. Is this an unnecessary step or is it just another layer of added protection? 3. Will the termite bait stations work if one of the mud tubes is coming up between a sidewalk and the stem wall? Or do I need to treat that with the Dominion 2L? Read Full Answer »Dominion 2L is a great product for termite control. When treating slabs you are supposed to drill where the slab meets the house. The goal of any termite treatment is to completely surround your home around the perimeter of the foundation. To get the product against your foundation where you have a slab you should drill through the slab. If you decide to trench around the slab then you will be leaving this important area against the house exposed to termites. I am not familiar with a HP Mister or what they could be placing in the wall. Foam is not necessary if you can get to the termites under normal conditions. Termite bait stations are just a secondary form of protection. A Baiting System will no take care of any termites that have already found wood in your house. They are a preventative treatment only and will only intercept new colonies in the ground coming towards your house. The only way to eliminate termites already in your home is to treat them directly with a liquid treatment. Please let us know if you have any further questions. It also does not hurt to drill a hole into the beam and treat into the beam directly. However, the bigger issue is that it sounds like you have subterranean termites which usually enter from around the outside perimeter of the home. You can just spot treat the beam, but the more complete answer is to treat around the perimeter of your home completely. This will serve two purposes. If there are termites in other places around your home you do not know about yet, a full treatment should take care of them. Also, if you treat around your entire home, the Dominion will last for 7 years in the soil which means you should be able to live termite free for the next 7 years. You should read our "How To Do A Termite Treatment" article which explains exactly how you can do just as good, if not better of a treatment than a professional company. -
