The Mosquito Control Kit - Professional is safe to apply to all non-edible plants. You want to be careful about making applications on flowering plants or during the heat of the day when plants are under more stress. The key with mosquito control is to apply to the underside of the leaves where the adults lay during the day. Please take a moment to review our How to Get Rid of Mosquitoes Guide for more information and helpful tips on eradicating this pest.
What setting is appropriate for you when using the Mosquito Control Kit - Professional will depend on the machine you are using and the density of the foliage that you need to treat. If you are using a Solo 451, then the lowest setting is usually strong enough for insecticide applications.
Our Mosquito Control Kits provide excellent control of mosquitoes. The Mosquito Control Kit - Professional has everything you need. This kit contains two insecticide concentrates, an insect growth regulator (IGR), as well as a larvicide. Exciter Insecticide contains natural pyrethrins and Piperonyl Butoxide for a quick knockdown of adult mosquitoes, while Talstar P offers residual protection on mosquito resting areas. Tekko Pro IGR prohibits the development of immature mosquitoes, and Altosid Pro-G is a larvicide to treat standing water or areas likely to flood.
We would recommend our Mosquito Control Kit - Professional. It includes a great variety of products and active ingredients. This kit contains two insecticide concentrates, an Insect Growth Regulator, as well as a larvicide so that you can treat both land and standing water. The key is to apply these products to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or where you are trying to provide relief. It should be directed not only on top of the leaves and plants, but on the underside of the leaves as well which is where the mosquitoes hang out during the heat of the day.
Since the key to eliminating mosquitoes is applying products in the Mosquito Control Kit - Professional to the underside of leaves on trees and bushes, it would not be recommended to mix with herbicide for this application. Both Trimec and SpeedZone Southern will damage or kill desirable ornamental plants. If just spraying grass you could do so, though, following each mixing rate on the individual product labels. It would also be recommended to do a compatibility test to ensure there would be no issues with tank mixing beforehand following the jar test instructions on the product label for either Trimec or Speedzone Southern. Please refer to our Mosquito Treatment Guide for more tips on eradicating this pest.
Some of the products in the Mosquito Control Kit - Professional are restricted to NY and CT. For non-licensed residents of those states. please see our New York Mosquito Control Kit - Heavy Population.
We apologize, but since we do not carry the Stihl brand products, we are not familiar enough to provide settings for them. We can only provide the application rates for the products included in the Mosquito Control Kit - Professional. Both Talstar P and Tekko Pro are diluted at the rate of 1 oz. per gallon of water. You will use 0.5 oz. of ExciteR per gallon of water. Each finished gallon covers approximately 1000 sq. ft.
We do not have a Mosquito Kit that is natural/organic but you can use an insecticide like EcoVia or Essentria IC3 around water which are both safe for aquatic life. Otherwise if using the Mosquito Control Kit - Professional avoid allowing drift or spray to contact the koi pond by keeping applications at least 10 feet away or cover if small enough during application.
We would recommend our Mosquito Control Kit - Professional. The kit contains products with different active ingredients that target different stages of mosquito development for the most thorough population control. This kit contains two insecticide concentrates, an Insect Growth Regulator, as well as a larvicide so that you can treat both land and standing water. Apply spray solution to adult mosquito resting areas, including ornamental plants such as dense brush, tall grasses, and especially the undersides of leaves on trees and bushes. Also treat resting areas on structures such as under eaves or other overhangs, under decks and porches, and in other moist, shady areas where mosquitoes may rest or breed.
Talstar P is also a great residual product for fly control. Please see our Flies Pest Guide for more information.
The Mosquito Control Kit - Professional would be a great option to use. This kit contains two insecticide concentrates, an insect growth regulator (IGR), as well as a larvicide so that you can treat both land and standing water. Exciter Insecticide contains natural pyrethrins and piperonyl butoxide for a quick knockdown of adult mosquitoes, while Talstar P offers residual protection on mosquito resting areas. Tekko Pro Insect Growth Regulator prohibits the development of immature mosquitoes, and Altosid Pro-G is a larvicide to treat standing water or areas likely to flood. Using all of these products together is the best way to control mosquito populations. Please see our Mosquito Treatment Article for more tips and information.
You can certainly use the products in the Mosquito Control Kit – Professional to treat your property as long as your sprayer is a mister and not a ULV fogger. Be sure that there would not be any overspray onto bodies of water with aquatic life or edible plants like a vegetable garden. You want to concentrate on ornamental shrubs, low tree branches, around structures, and other spots where mosquitoes are likely to land. The Altosid Pro-G in this kit is a larvicide to use in standing water, containerized water, or spots that may flood when you have rain to prevent new mosquitoes from breeding in treated areas. Please take a look at our Mosquito Treatment Guide here for more tips.
If you are spraying on a pasture, then you need to use a product such as Essentria All Purpose which is labeled for use in these areas. You can use All Purpose near bodies of water, too.
With the exception of the Altosid, all the products in the Mosquito Control Kit - Professional can be used at once in a hand pump or backpack sprayer, or a mist blower.
When using Mosquito Control Kit - Professional to treat for mosquitoes, the grass really isn’t an aera that needs to be treated. Mosquitoes don’t generally land in grasses, so there is no reason to treat that area. The areas of application should be concentrated on cooler, shaded areas that the mosquitoes land on during the hottest part of the day to seek shelter from the heat. This is the underside of tree canopies, the interiors of shrubs and bushes, under eaves and soffits, etc. If these areas receive a lot of rainfall, an reapplication at around 21 days may be necessary.
The Talstar P in the Mosquito Control Kit - Professional uses the same active ingredient bifenthrin that is in the generic brand Bifen IT. Talstar P is the name brand, Bifen IT is the generic brand. These two products would not be tank mixed together as they are essentially the same product.
The Talstar P, ExciteR and Archer IGR can all be tank mixed together in one tank for a 3 in 1 spray application. Talstar P provides the 21-30 day residual, ExciteR is the contact kill/knockdown and Archer IGR is the insect growth regulator to help stop the growth cycle.
Please view the Mosquito Treatment Guide for more information.
As long as the sprayer applies spray like a regular backpack sprayer or mistblower you can use the products in the Mosquito Control Kit - Professional. If it puts out sprays more like a fogging machine or ULV fogger, you cannot use it with the kit. We recommend contacting the backpack manufacturer to see what type of output the machine has.
Yes, you could possibly use a pull-behind sprayer to apply the products in the Mosquito Control Kit – Professional. Keep in mind that for mosquitoes, the key is to apply to the underside of leaves on trees/bushes which is there the adults lay during the day, as well as shady areas. You would not treat entire areas of the lawn that are in full sun as it is not habitable for them there. For general insects you can treat the lawn though.
We have a guide here that explains as well.
You should avoid getting the products (or drift) in the Mosquito Control Kit - Professional into swimming pools though small amounts that accidentally get in a pool will be so diluted that there shouldn't be any concern. It is highly recommended to cover the pool during the pest control applications (once per month).
Unfortunately, there are no good answers for black fly because they are not attracted to fly traps or fly baits and there is no way to stop the larva from developing. You may want to check in with your local department of agriculture to see if they have any advice for you.
The insecticides (Bifen IT, Tekko Pro & ExciteR) in the Mosquito Control Kit - Professional may only provide partial control for black flies if applications are made where you see the flies land. The residual insecticide in the Mosquito Control Kit, Bifen IT however is labeled for biting flies, house flies, gnats, mosquitos, and many other insects. It is a great general purpose outdoor insecticide to use mixed at 1 fl oz per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft. Please view the product label here for more information.
