Product Overview

Whatever your plans are this summer, fighting off angry yellow jackets shouldn’t be one of them.  With the DoMyOwn Yellow Jacket Bait Station Kit with Onslaught, we make controlling yellow jackets around your home easy and effective. One kit contains enough insecticide product to treat Yellow Jackets year after year without ever having to buy another station, trap or insecticide. Each kit comes with:

  • Four (4) reusable PFT Hanging Bait Stations
  • One (1) pint of Onslaught Insecticide concentrate, the only insecticide labeled for Yellow Jacket baiting

To use the yellow jacket baiting stations included in this kit, place a mixture of tuna or other food attractant (see below for examples) with a small amount of Onslaught Insecticide in each bait station.  Hang the stations around the outside of the home, out of reach of children, but accessible to yellow jackets. Once loaded with the bait mixed with the insecticide, the bait stations will attract the stinging insects where they will contact, ingest and spread the insecticide, eliminating the yellow jacket problem sometimes within just a few days. Additional PFT Hanging Bait Stations are sold separately.

There are several species of yellow jackets that are not scavengers and would not be attracted to the stations. We recommend trying out a few baits without the Onslaught before using the kit to ensure the species you are treating will take to a bait. A few recommended baits: raw chicken pieces, raw fish, canned tuna, cat food, or fruit.

The quickest way to ruin a great outdoor party is when annoying, uninvited guests show up.  DoMyOwn’s Yellow Jacket Bait Station Kit with Onslaught will make sure you don’t have to worry about yellow jackets crashing your party all summer long! (We also have everything you need to keep other nuisance party crashers like ants, fleas, ticksflies, and mosquitoes, from ruining your outdoor experience!)

Yellow Jacket Bait Station Kit with Onslaught is designed and labeled for use with Onslaught microencapsulated insecticide. When used together, they are the perfect combination for controlling yellowjackets (also commonly called meat bees) around residences,  restaurants, resorts, campgrounds, zoos and other areas where humans or animals are harassed by yellowjackets.

Onlsaught insecticide is the only insecticide with an EPA approved label for yellow jacket baiting.

How to use the Yellow Jacket Bait Station Kit with Onslaught

STEP 1. We recommend testing a few types of bait before using the stations. This will help you determine what food bait the yellow jackets be most attracted to and ensure the fastest consumption of the treated bait.
The nutritional needs of yellow jackets change periodically. During the early part of the season, yellow jackets are mainly looking for protein based food sources, like fish or chicken. They will usually forage for proteins first in the early part of the season because they are feeding their developing young back in the nest. This is the most optimal time to bait for them since they will be taking back the Onslaught treated bait back to their nest to feed the next generation. Using protein baits will also help deter honey bees from entering the bait stations (honey bees are on the decline and it is best avoid harming them whenever possible). During other parts of the season yellow jackets are looking for carbohydrate or sugary foods like soda, beer or fruit juice to help maintain energy levels. We recommend that you put out a couple of different protein baits (fish, chicken) and a couple of different carbohydrate baits (cola, fruit juice) without adding the Onslaught. Leave the bait out for a day or two and see which bait the yellow jackets are attracted to. Once you see which bait they like, then you can add the Onslaught to the mix and put out the bait stations. Be sure to use the recommended usage rate of 1/4 teaspoon of Onslaught per 10 oz. of bait to avoid making the bait repellent to the yellow jackets.

Testing several foods. Looks like they are going for chicken!

STEP 2. Mix your choice of bait with Onslaught. You only need a very small amount of Onslaught for the bait to be effective. We recommend mixing 1/4th teaspoon of Onslaught per 10 oz. of bait.  Do not overuse Onslaught.  Using more than the reccomended 1/4th tsp per 10 oz bait will not make the mixture any more effective, and can actually cause repellency issues where yellow jackets will actively avoid the bait and stations.

STEP 3. Place a few ounces of bait in each station and hang the stations outside around your home 5-6 feet off the ground and about 50 feet apart. For example, you could hang the trap from a tree limb. Keep the stations out of reach of children, but in areas where the yellow jackets can enter the stations.

Replace bait mixture when consumed or after about 1 week or when the bait mixture starts to mold.

    Good design, missing parts

    By Peter on 09/22/2023

Bait stations appears to be well designed for purpose, insecticide helpfully packaged to permit metering of small amounts as well as generous pours,, legally EPA labeled. But a 3 week delay due to an out-of-stock situation at the mfg/distributor meant that what was already a late season order was received after the local population of yellow jackets had all been trapped or died. Further, the shipment came without printed instructions of any kind, and the necessary support wires for hanging the stations were also missing. I expect it to perform as advertised, but will have to wait until next spring to verify that. The domyown web site does contain some instructions for use, and a video describing assembly and use, very helpful, but this crusty old customer who matured in the age of print-only always prefers print to refer to, you can't assemble the station while sitting at your computer.
