How does Optigard Ant Bait Gel work?
Ants that feed on the gel will return to their nest and transfer the bait to the queen and their young, thereby killing the queen, the young and the entire colony.
How long will it take to see results?
Dead ants should begin to appear within days after ants have begun feeding on the bait. Substantial reduction in ants foraging should be seen within a few days to a week. For effective management of certain ant species such as Argentine ant, reduction of food sources (such as honeydew-producing insects like aphids) near entry points around the structure is critical. Long term control is most effectively obtained with a combination of methods for ant management.
How long will the Bait remain attractive to ants before I need to reapply?
Attractiveness of the bait to ants is enhanced by its high moisture retention properties and the bait will remain attractive for at least two weeks following bait deployment.
How To Apply Optigard Ant Bait Gel:
This product can be applied using the syringe applicator or a bait injector. Apply bait in cracks, crevices, corners and out of the way places, such as under and behind kitchen appliances and baseboards, under sinks, around window and door frames, pipes and water heater and in the attic, crawl space and garage. Place multiple application spots of gel where ants are observed actively foraging or entering the structure. If the area to be treated has been recently treated with insecticide, thoroughly clean the area before applying this bait. Do not spray insecticide over gel as this may cause the bait to become repellent. Do not apply to areas that are routinely washed (such as countertops) as bait may be removed or diluted and spread onto the surface.
Visually inspect for the presence of ants and place this product in areas where ants are seen. Optimal locations for bait placement are the active points of entry and areas with potential high moisture including: wall voids, cracks and crevices in kitchens and bathrooms, under sinks, window sills and door frames, screen vents, attics, crawl spaces and garages. In areas of excessive foraging activity, place bait in several locations near the point of entry. Do not place bait in areas that are routinely washed, as washing will remove or dilute bait. Do not treat food preparation surfaces. During followup visits inspect placements and reapply as needed.
Place bait on, into or adjacent to structures where ants are observed, adjacent to ant trails and to areas suspected of ant activity. Optimal locations for bait placement are points of entry into the structure and areas with potential periods of high moisture such as: soffits, eaves, weep holes, and where pipes and wires enter the structure. Exposure to direct sunlight, extreme heat or cold and water may reduce length of bait effectiveness. Bait may also be placed outdoors into refillable tamper resistant bait stations. Close tamper resistant stations securely after application. During follow-up visits inspect placements and reapply as needed.
Application within food/feed areas of food/feed handling establishments is limited to crack and crevice treatment only.

I've tried everything
By Rob in Miramar, Florida on 04/24/2009
I've tried everything and Optigard Ant Bait Gel has definitely worked the best. Ants are not repelled by the smell or taste like other liquid baits. My ant infestation was out of control but I believe I will eventually wipe out the colonies.

Scary, but works GREAT!!!
By Kris in Acworth, GA on 03/17/2010
I had an huge ant invasion in my basement, then a trail to my master bath. I put the Optigard on a flat paper plate, within an hour the amount of ants tripled! By the next morning they were ALL GONE!!! The stuff was amazing, but it was really hard to watch more come without spraying them.

Optigard Ant Bait Gel
By Ed in Athens, Ga. on 04/15/2010
This is a life-saver when it comes to getting rid of ants which seem to pop up from time to time regardless of what is done. It make take a few days for all the ants to be gone, but it does the job in an easy and efficient way.

Works great but tends to run
By Tyler in Durham, NC on 04/23/2011
This product works absolutely fantastic. I took care of an entire Odorous Ant infestation with nothing but Optigard. My ONLY complaint is that sometimes it comes out of the tube in liquid form and runs all over the place.

This stuff wiped out the *entire* ant problem in the house. We had multiple types of black ants. Small ones, big ones, crazy microscopic one. All the ants in the kitchen, office, bedrooms and dining area are completely, 100% gone. Amazing stuff.
By Shaundra in Los Angeles on 10/04/2017
During some really high temperatures ants kept finding trails into the house....especially in the kitchen. A building inspector I know from work gave me a tube. I had tried everything but they always came back. I put some gel on the baseboards and near places i saw them. I swear i looked down the next day and they were gone. Then out the corner of my eye i saw one stray near the ceiling. I look up and ants were either at the top of the wall or on the ceiling...! The gel scared them and they wouldn't come anywhere near it. After we got rid of the few strays...placed gel around the entire door sill...I have not seen a single ant. Not even in the kitchen. Amazing stuff!

It took care of the problem.
By Edgar in Coral Springs, Fl on 08/12/2017
While I had tried for the past year a bunch of insecticides, outside and inside (the walls) of the property, none had done the job like Optiguard ant bait gel. Easy to apply and fast to work. You can actually see ants be attracted and consuming it quickly. Not even three days and no signs of ants inside and minimal activity outside (I have a big back yard with lots of coconut trees). I am very happy with the result and hope to continue using it as much as I need it. Infestation eliminated!

Fast and effective
By Eric in Dauphin, PA on 04/12/2017
Purchased the gel and granules due to carpenter ants on a porch. The ants were going up and down a post and I didn't want to start removing soffit to find the nest. I put some gel and granules on the handrail and the ants immediately began taking the bait. Two weeks later and there is no sign of the ants.

This stuff really works great. Just put a couple drops where you see them and next day no more ants for at least a month or so.
Fast acting ant-magnet
By John in Sugar Land on 10/10/2016
I got this and Invict Blitz for crazy ants. The Invict Blitz is supposed to be an all-in-one granule, really I think its more of a protein bait. Optigard is a sugar bait. The ants are usually interested in the Invict, but not always; but they take Optigard every single time. If you have to choose just one, get Optigard. If you spot a stray ant or two on your countertop, leave a small line and you'll have a swarm in 20 minutes. Then at the end of the day the ants are gone. A little goes a long way so the high cost is worth it.
Saved my butt

When I was a professional Pest Control Tech I would get call after call for small and issues inside of homes. This stuff was amazing. It's a slow killer which is what is required. Works really well.

QIs Opitgard Ant bait gel safe for a home with pets?
AWhen used as directed on the product label Optigard Ant Bait Gel is safe to use in a home with pets (unless your pets are ants). According to the product label, you should place bait in wall voids and in cracks and crevices in kitchens and bathrooms, under sinks, window sills and door frames, screen vents, attics, crawl spaces and garages.
QAfter using Optigard Ant Bait Gel the ants were decreasing but now on day five they have increased!!
Using your Optigard gel only, ants are around sink. How often should I rebait the area? When gel dries is it still effective?
AIt is important to keep the Optigard Ant Bait Gel out for as long as you see ant activity. Ant colonies can be very large and depending on the species it can take a few weeks to completely eliminate the whole colony. While the gel is still effective after it has dried, some ants may not accept it as readily as moist gel.

QWhat are the side effects for humans if the Optigard is inhaled or touches the skin?
AOptigard has a very low toxicity level and can not be inhaled. If it touches your skin, wash your skin with soap and hot water to remove it. The Optigard Ant Bait Gel is made primarily from food based ingredients and only contains enough active ingredient to kill something the size of an ant. Any side effect to a human would vary on the human and their sensitivity to the product.

QHow effective is Optigard on Pharoah Ants?
How long will it take to eliminate all the buds/satellites of the colony? These ants are persistent!!
AThe Optigard product label specifically not to use Optigard for Pharaoh ants. This is likely because the colonies are so large that they can be hard to control with baits and the manufacturer did not want negative results associated with their product and also, Pharaoh ants can be a bit picky and will often ignore baits. Instead you may want to consider using a product such as Phantom Aerosol. Phantom comes with a straw attachment for precision applications and should be applied around baseboards, door frames, window frames and places where utilities (cables, pipes and wires) enter through the wall as these are the most likely places for the ants to enter/exit. Phantom is a non-repellent insecticide that has a delayed reaction which allows ants time to get back to the colony and spread the product. In essence, the ants will not be able to tell that the product is in place and they will pick it up on the fine hairs all over their body and inadvertently carry it back to the colony where over a course of a few days it will knock out the entire colony. Phantom works really well because you don't have to worry about whether the ants will all take the bait, they just need to walk over the treated areas.

QDoes Optigard Ant Bait Gel work great for rover ants?
I have little black ants (rover) in the kitchen. I have tried everything and nothing works. I have tried advion ant gel bait and it just moving the ants. I got rid of the trails but still see ants everyday
A While Optigard Ant Bait Gel is a great ant bait, its not specifically labeled for Rover ants. We do however carry a bait specifically for Rover ants called Intice Rover Ant Bait and it controls rover ants as well as most other ants as well. If you feel a spray would be more beneficial at this point you could use a spray like Phantom II Aerosol to spray along crevices where you see ant activity and they will pick it up on their bodies and transfer it back to the nest just through touch and contact.†

QCan I use the Optigard Ant Bait Gel outside?
All of the questions I read about are only for indoor use.
A Most people choose to spray insecticide outdoors or to use a bait granule that may fair a bit better under outdoor conditions. The Optigard Ant Bait Gel is labeled for outdoor use: Outdoor Use

QIs Optigard only used for ants or is it an effective tool on other small insects like bed bugs?
A Optigard Ant Bait Gel†is only labeled for and will only be effective on ants.† It will not be effective on other insects as the attractants it contains are formulated for ants.† The only other bait gels that we carry are for cockroaches, not other small insects or bed bugs.† If you have a bed bugs, we would suggest one of our Bedbug Kits. Please take a few moments to review our treatment article/videos on How to Get Rid of Bedbugs for more information on a successful eradication program.
