Prodiamine 65 WDG is widely used by homeowners and lawn care professionals as a long-lasting pre-emergent herbicide that helps stop weeds before they emerge, making it one of the most effective tools for preventing crabgrass and other annual weeds in established turf. Its long residual control helps reduce the number of applications needed while providing reliable season-long weed prevention.
Prodiamine 65 WDG is labeled for use on the following turf grasses:
Bermudagrass, Bahiagrass, Centipedegrass, Kikuyugrass, Seashore Paspalum, St. Augustinegrass, Tall Fescue (including turf-type), Fine Fescue, Zoysiagrass, Buffalograss, Kentucky Bluegrass, Perennial Ryegrass, Creeping Bentgrass (0.5 inches or more in height).
Prodiamine 65 WDG (Generic Barricade) is a water-dispersible granule (WDG) pre-emergent herbicide that must be mixed with water and applied evenly over the treatment area to prevent weeds such as crabgrass and other annual grasses.
One of the most common questions homeowners ask is: How many teaspoons of Prodiamine 65 WDG per gallon of water are needed to treat 1,000 sq ft? For most small lawn applications, mix 1.5 level teaspoons of Prodiamine 65 WDG per gallon of water to treat approximately 1,000 square feet.
Mixing Instructions
Fill your sprayer ¼ to ½ full with clean water.
Add the measured amount of Prodiamine 65 WDG granules to the tank.
Agitate or shake the sprayer so the granules disperse in the water.
Add the remaining water to reach the total spray volume.
Continue to agitate during application to keep the product evenly suspended.
Application Coverage
1 gallon of finished spray typically covers about 1,000 sq ft.
Apply the mixture evenly across the lawn or treatment area for uniform pre-emergent coverage.
After Application
Prodiamine should be watered into the soil with about ½ inch of irrigation or rainfall after application. This activates the herbicide and creates the soil barrier that stops weed seeds from germinating.
Always follow the product label for the correct application rates, turf types, and target weeds, and clean your sprayer thoroughly after use.
