My elderly parents house was being over run with mice, so I was called upon to close up the multiple entry points. Since the house is over 90 years old, the challenge was finding something that would fill the variety of openings. Cutting, wrapping, and rolling the Xcluder material into various shapes worked well in filling the larger gaps. Cutting the material is a challenge. I ultimately ended up using a pair of tin snips. The wire strands will go everywhere, so gloves and eye protection is a must.

Definitely wear leather gloves and be careful not to breath in the floating dust-polymers. OK to use outside but use a dust mask for indoor work. One note. It will burn with DIRECT flame-I would be Leary about putting it around a flash water heater exhaust.

I would get mice in my basement every winter no matter what I did. Last winter was really bad for my basement, 8 mice in traps. In the fall I installed Xcluder 4", cut into 2" strips, in the gap at the cinder block foundation wall and the siding. I folded the cloth in half and pushed it into the gap with a putty knife, be sure to wear gloves. It's now mid March without one mouse. It cost a bit but I'm saving money on traps, time and cheese. Will the Xcluder Single Roll rust or stain if it gets wet?
The copper mesh product indicates that it will not rust or stain, but this product does not make the same claims. Does that imply that it will rust. If so, is there a product which won't rust which is breathable and fine enough for bugs?

Can I repair holes in a cedar wall if I am not sure if rodents are still inside?
We have an exterior cedar wall at our church that has holes where either squirrels or woodpeckers have created holes. Can I patch those holes or should I place some form of exclusion device on first and leave in place for a time to ensure they have left?

It is not recommended to seal up holes or crevices if you have current rodent activity until they are removed. You do not want to seal them up trapped inside the voids because this could lead to odor and other insect activity. We carry excluder traps and then the holes can be sealed. It is also very helpful that you treat with a general pest control product such as Bifen IT to eliminate the insects that the woodpecker is attracted to.
