    Q
How much water do I need to dilute one packet of Merit 75 WSP in for a lawn application?
I want to purchase Merit to treat for grubs, I am having a hard time understanding mixing instructions. It says one packet per 8250 sq.ft but How are we to measure or know how much water to mix etc.. If someone could clear that up it would be great. Thanks
    A

The amount of water you use is up to you. The manufacturer recommends that you use an amount of water that is easy for you to handle and calculate. Water simply acts as a carrier and it is important that even distribution of the product is achieved. Thus, more water may be used if the applicator f…

    Q
Is Merit 75 WSP safe to use as a soil drench for Citrus?
Can I use this on Citrus for psyllid control? Should I harvest fruit first? How long will this persist in the plant?
    A

Merit 75 WSP cannot be used on a citrus tree. The product can persist for about 1 year after the application inside the tree. There is another product called Imidapro 4SC which is labeled for use on citrus trees and it contains the same active ingredient as Merit just in a different formulation.

    Q
I have white fly infestation on my golden duranta hedges in Honolulu where it's hot and humid year round.
I was told Merit was the best systemic insecticide to use. Are there any other similar products that you would recommend?
    A

Merit works well because it contains the active ingredient imidacloprid which acts as a systemic insecticide, but as you probably know is also quite expensive. We do carry several other products that contain imidacloprid and will work in the same way as Merit, and they are less expensive. Adonis 75

    Q
Will Merit 75 WSP help to get rid of moles?
    A

Merit 75 WSP will treat grubs and other turf pests that moles may occasionally eat, however, we would not recommend insect control as the primary means of treating for moles. Moles' primary food source is earthworms, which are going to be impossible (and unecessary) to eliminate. Our most popula…

Either Merit WP or the Merit WSP will work for your needs as the only difference between these products is how they are packaged. Q
Do you have anything to control grape phylloxera?
My small vineyard (24 vines) is starting to become infested with phylloxera. Do you have a recommendation for treating this safely? I currently spray with Sevin to control Japanese beetles and will begin a fungicide to prevent Black Rot in the spring. Can any of these treatments be combined?
    A

We would recommend using Bayer Advanced Natria Multi-Insect Control for use on Roses, Flowers, Fruits and Vegetables to treat for grape phylloxera. You will use 4 teaspoons per quart of water. You will spray thoroughly until the plant is wet. You can repeat treatments 1-2 weeks if needed. You can do…

  • Asked by David from Tennessee

    Q
How much water should I mix with 1 packet of Merit 75 wsp to soil drench a 30" Ash tree?
I am actually going to do a systemic soil drench on three 30" diameter ash trees to prevent Emerald Ash Borer. I ordered the Merit 75 wsp envelope. It looks like I should use 1 packet per tree, but how much water to mix with each packet? I have clay soil.
    A

It states on the label for soil drenching to uniformly apply the dosage in no less than 10 gallons of water per 1000 square feet as a drench around the base of the tree, directed to the root zone. Remove plastic or any other barrier that will stop solution from reaching the root zone.

    Q
Can Merit 75 WSP be used on bamboo gracilis?
I have an aphid infestation on my bamboo plants. Is it safe to use Merit 75 WSP on my plants? Do I just spray the root zone and soil, or the entire plant? I have 20+ VERY large bamboo plants (30 ft tall). How much Merit 75 WSP do I need? Does it need to be reapplied? If so, how often?
    A

Since Merit 75 WP does not list bamboo specifically on the label, we cannot give an exact rate for this plant, unfortunately. Our best recommendation would be using the ornamental plants rate, which is 1 x 1.6 oz packet per 300 gallons of water applied as a foliar spray. Since this is a systemic pro…

    Q
Does Merit 75 WSP kill active grubs on turfgrass?
    A

With Merit, it is most effective when applied prior to, or just after, egg lay. In most cases, adult emergence occurs in early summer, often after significant rainfall or irrigation, followed by mating and egg laying. This usually continues for four to six weeks. Under normal circumstances, Merit w…

    Q
Will Merit 75 Insecticide get rid of scale and anthracnose?
We have multiple large Ash trees suffering from a severe infestation of scale, and more than likely ash borers. We also have a large Sycamore suffering from Anthracnose. I'm looking at the Merit 75 product for ground treatment around the Ash Trees, and have no idea what to do about the Sycamore?

Merit 75 WSP would be a great choice for treating scale on the ash trees. We have detailed instructions on how to measure your trees to find out how much you will need to purchase and how to apply properly. Q
A lawn care company said my spruce trees have bark beetles, would Merit take care of these and by which method
    A

Merit is not recommended for most bark beetles because the beetles are under the bark but above the level where the Merit would trans-locate through the tree. Infected trees should be cut down (before the newly hatched beetles fly out of the trees in the spring/summer) and the wood burned or …

    Q
Can I use Merit 75 WSP through my 60 gal pull behind sparyer or will it plug up the screen?
    A

It is possible that Merit could clog your sprayer because it is a water soluble powder and the powder could settle causing a clog. We have not had any reports of Merit causing any issues when mixed well. If this is still a concern for you, please consider using a liquid formulation that contains the…

    Q
Systemic protection for hickory trees from spiral borers
I have three young hickory trees that are losing branch ends to spiral borers. Is there something that I can put on the ground or put below ground at the dripline that would help protect the trees systemically from spiral borers? If not, is there a product that can be injected into or below the bark?
    A

We have not been able to find a product that is labeled for the hickory spiral borers. The only information that we could find only recommended breaking off the damaged branches for control of the insect. If you would like to try a systemic insecticide to see if it helps, you could try Merit 75. You…
