Product Highlights
How does Optigard Ant Gel Bait work?
Ants that feed on the gel will return to their nest and transfer the bait to the queen and their young, thereby killing the queen, the young and the entire colony.
How long will it take to see results?
Dead ants should begin to appear within days after ants have begun feeding on the bait. Substantial reduction in ants foraging should be seen within a few days to a week. For effective management of certain ant species such as Argentine ant, reduction of food sources (such as honeydew-producing insects like aphids) near entry points around the structure is critical. Long term control is most effectively obtained with a combination of methods for ant management.
How long will the Bait remain attractive to ants before I need to reapply?
Attractiveness of the bait to ants is enhanced by its high moisture retention properties and the bait will remain attractive for at least two weeks following bait deployment.
Bait Application
This can be applied using the syringe applicator or a bait injector. Apply bait in cracks, crevices, corners and out of the way places, such as under and behind kitchen appliances and baseboards, under sinks, around window and door frames, pipes and water heater and in the attic, crawl space and garage. Place multiple application spots of gel where ants are observed actively foraging or entering the structure. If the area to be treated has been recently treated with insecticide, thoroughly clean the area before applying this bait. Do not spray insecticide over gel as this may cause the bait to become repellent. Do not apply to areas that are routinely washed (such as countertops) as bait may be removed or diluted and spread onto the surface.
Indoor Use
Visually inspect for the presence of ants and place this product in areas where ants are seen. Optimal locations for bait placement are the active points of entry and areas with potential high moisture including: wall voids, cracks and crevices in kitchens and bathrooms, under sinks, window sills and door frames, screen vents, attics, crawl spaces and garages. In areas of excessive foraging activity, place bait in several locations near the point of entry. Do not place bait in areas that are routinely washed, as washing will remove or dilute bait. Do not treat food preparation surfaces. During followup visits inspect placements and reapply as needed.
Outdoor Use
Place bait on, into or adjacent to structures where ants are observed, adjacent to ant trails and to areas suspected of ant activity. Optimal locations for bait placement are points of entry into the structure and areas with potential periods of high moisture such as: soffits, eaves, weep holes, and where pipes and wires enter the structure. Exposure to direct sunlight, extreme heat or cold and water may reduce length of bait effectiveness. Bait may also be placed outdoors into refillable tamper resistant bait stations. Close tamper resistant stations securely after application. During follow-up visits inspect placements and reapply as needed.
Application within food/feed areas of food/feed handling establishments is limited to crack and crevice treatment only.
