The Mosquito Control Kit - Ultimate contains both the chemicals and equipment you need to professionally treat larger areas or multiple properties for mosquito infestations from small to severe. The Mosquito Control Kit - Ultimate offers the most versatility, including a Solo 451 Mist Blower to get the fastest and best coverage with your insecticides. This kit contains two insecticide concentrates, an Insect Growth Regulator, as well as a larvicide so that you can treat both land and standing water. Exciter Insecticide contains natural pyrethrins and Piperonyl Butoxide for a quick knockdown of adult mosquitoes, while Talstar P offers residual protection on mosquito resting areas. Tekko Pro IGR prohibits the development of immature mosquitoes, and Altosid Pro-G is a larvicide to treat standing water or areas likely to flood. This kit treats up to 96,000 square feet (Talstar P only) plus over 5,000 square feet or over 20,000 gallons of water.
We recommend that the most complete mosquito Treatment always include a good Inspection as well as lawn Sanitation to find and reduce the hot spots where mosquitoes breed and harbour. Using this complete approach will ensure you get the best results out of your pesticide applications to help stop mosquitoes from spreading dangerous diseases like West Nile and the Zika Virus.

The Mosquito Control Kit - Ultimate includes products that are easy to measure and apply in quantities that treat larger yards or multiple properties. This kit also offers the versatility of multiple concentrates that can be mixed and applied at the same time. As with all pests, it is crucial to address the environmental conditions that support mosquito populations. While it is unrealistic to expect 100% control of all mosquitoes, taking the time to do a good Inspection so that you can address both land and water conditions that favor mosquitoes will help you get the best results from your mosquito Treatment .
How to Apply the Mosquito Control Kit - Ultimate
STEP 1 - SANITATION
Because mosquitoes need water to lay eggs and develop, finding and eliminating water sources is a crucial step in managing mosquito populations.
*Check for areas where rainwater collects such as bird baths, flowerpots, gutters, rain barrels, pool covers, animal drinking water receptacles, deep hollows in trees, standing puddles, and any other areas where water may collect. Minimize water collection and empty these containers as you are able, and treat other standing water with larvicides (see STEP 2).
*Keep trees and shrubs pruned and grasses short to reduce areas where moisture is retained and adult mosquitoes like to rest.
*Remove or reduce piles of yard debris to reduce harborage areas.
STEP 2 - TREAT STANDING WATER- Altosid Pro-G IGR
Altosid is a ready-to-use granule that contains the insect growth regulator (IGR) Methoprene. Altosid is not a true larvicide, though it does prevent adult mosquito emergence. Granules will gradually sink in water and will release active ingredient continuously for up to 30 days.
*Apply Altosid evenly over the surface of the water to be treated to control mosquitoes before they become breeding, biting adults.
*Use a disposable spoon or other dedicated measuring tool to measure Altosid granules.
*Rates of application are for water less than 2 feet deep, or by total gallons of water for deeper water. Use approximately 80 granules per gallon of water for small applications such as flower pots, urns, old tires, etc. For other applications:
*1 cup treats 2,400 sq. ft. or 9,600 gallons of water
*¼ cup treats 600 sq. ft. or 2,400 gallons
*1 tbsp. treats 150 sq. ft. or 600 gallons
*½ tbsp. treats 75 sq. ft. or 300 gallons
*1 tsp. treats 50 sq. ft. or 200 gallons
*½ tsp. treats 25 sq. ft. or 100 gallons
*¼ tsp. treats up to 13 sq. ft. or 50 gallons.
*Apply Altosid to temporary and permanent sites which support mosquito larval development such as bird baths, gutters, animal feeding troughs, small ponds, rain barrels, unused swimming pools or hot tubs.
*Altosid also may be used on sites such as salt and tidal marshes, freshwater swamps and marshes, drainage areas, ditches, retention ponds, sewers, catch basins, irrigated croplands, pastures, and orchards. See the product label for complete list of approved sites.
*Application to sites subject to water flow or exchange will diminish effectiveness and may require higher application rates or more frequent applications.
*Altosid is safe for use around fish, aquatic life, amphibians, other beneficial insects, and pets.
*Do not apply to finished human drinking water.
*Store unused granules in a cool, dry place out of reach of children and pets.
STEP 3 - INSECTICIDES and INSECT GROWTH REGULATOR - Talstar P, Tekko Pro IGR, ExciteR Insecticide, Solo 451
There are three concentrates with different active ingredients included in this kit. All of these concentrates must be diluted with water and applied with pressurized spray equipment. We recommend using Talstar P for most applications, adding Tekko Pro IGR for heavier populations, and diluting ExciteR with one or both of these solutions to include a faster initial cleanout of existing adult mosquitoes. These concentrates may be applied with the included Solo 451 Mist Blower, or with a pump sprayer.
*Follow the included instructions to assemble the Solo 451 Mist Blower. See also our video above regarding assembly and spraying.
*The Solo 451 will hold up to 3 gallons of finished solution.
*We recommend to begin at a low setting, especially if you have not used a mist blower before. The Solo 451 will treat very quickly, and you should aim to apply 1 gallon of finished solution per 1,000 square feet of treatment area. You can dilute insecticides in more water per area if you find you are running out of product too quickly.
*Talstar P contains Bifenthrin, a synthetic pyrethroid that kills adult mosquitoes both upon initial spray and for weeks after application.
*Dilute Talstar P at a rate of 1 oz. of concentrate per gallon of water or per 1,000 square feet of area to be treated.
*To measure Talstar P, squeeze the bottle to fill the small reservoir with the desired amount of concentrate. Remove only the cap on the small reservoir to dispense the pre-measure liquid. *To make dilution, add desired amount of water to spray tank, add Talstar P, then stir, shake, or agitate the tank to ensure proper mixing before spraying.
*Tekko Pro IGR contains the active ingredient Pyridine that imitates a growth hormone and prevents full develop in immature mosquitoes.
*Dilute Tekko Pro at a rate of 1 oz. of concentrate per gallon of water or per 1,500 square feet.
*To measure Tekko Pro IGR, squeeze the bottle to fill the small reservoir with the desired amount of concentrate. Remove only the cap on the small reservoir to dispense the pre-measured liquid. Add Tekko Pro IGR to dilution after ensuring Talstar P and/or ExciteR is mixed thoroughly.
*ExciteR contains natural pyrethrum, an insecticide that quickly kills insect pests on contact, and Piperonyl Butoxide (PBO), a synergist to stabilize and boost killing power of insecticides.
*Shake container well before measuring and mixing.
*Dilute ExciteR at a rate of 0.25 - 0.50 oz. of concentrate per 1,000 square feet for most applications. Higher rates may be used for cleanout of very heavy populations: see the product label for complete use rates.
*When mixing ExciteR with Talstar P, match the volume of water with the rate you are using for the Talstar P. For example, if you are using 1 oz. of Talstar per gallon of water for 1,000 square feet, use 0.25-0.5 oz. of ExciteR per gallon of water. If you are apply Talstar at a rate of 0.33 oz. in 3 gallons per 1,000 square feet, dilute ExciteR at a rate of 0.08-.17 oz. per gal, or 0.25-0.5 oz. per 3 gallons of water.
*To measure ExciteR, squeeze the bottle to fill the small reservoir with the desired amount of concentrate. Unscrew only the cap on the the small reservoir to dispense the pre-measured liquid.
*To make dilution, add at least ½ desired volume of water to spray tank, add ExciteR concentrate, then agitate or close and invert spray tank to mix product. Repeat agitation before spraying to ensure solution is mixed thoroughly.
*When tank mixing multiple products, dilute only what you plant to spray the same day. Do not let tank mixtures sit overnight.
*Apply spray solution to adult mosquito resting areas, including ornamental plants such as dense brush, tall grasses, and especially the undersides of leaves on trees and bushes. Also treat resting areas on structures such as under eaves or other overhangs, under decks and porches, and in other moist, shady areas where mosquitoes may rest or breed.
*Apply when mosquitoes are most active for the best knockdown: spray early in the morning, in early afternoon, or after sunset.
*Resist the urge to broadcast over the entire yard and home since this may also reduce populations of beneficial insects and predators.
*Do not make applications with this solution that may contaminate water sources such as ponds or streams where there is aquatic life present.
*Do not apply spray solution to edible plants.
*Keep pets and other people out of the treatment area until the application has dried, usually about an hour.
*Mix only the amount of solution you plan to apply within 24 hours. The active ingredient will degrade if left in solution, and the residue may damage your spray equipment.
*Repeat applications every 30-60 days as needed. The solution may be applied more frequently if heavy populations recur, but you must wait at least 7 days between applications.
*Store unused products in the original container in a temperate environment and out of direct sunlight. Store out of reach of children or pets for up to 3 years.

Worth the money!!
By William in Sandy Springs, Georgia on 08/27/2012
Our backyard was infested with mosquitoes, nothing I tried worked. I was hesitant on the price, but after looking at professional companies charging $150 per treatment I decided to do it myself. After one treatment, I have ZERO mosquitoes. They swarm my wife and daughter, but not anymore. Thank you Do My Own Pest Control for providing a professional solution that works and that I can do myself!! This kit is awesome- looking forward to spending time in our backyard now.

A big investment
By William in Liberty, Ms. on 10/18/2012
We have had a terrible summer with the extra large numbers of mosquitos. I live in the city limits and our city has always done a good job of keeping the mosquitos under control until this year. I asked them several times if they were spraying and was told all times that they were, however it was not working. I had tried everything myself fog machines, spray, candles and nothing worked for any length of time. I had a friend tell me I needed to use a spray mister with the chemical bifenthrin. I order the Mosquito Kit and used it 1 time and no more mosquitos. This was the best info I have got all summer. Thanks

Mosquito Control Kit - Ultimate
By Tom in NC on 04/12/2016
I think the system works as well as the professional treatments I have had done, based on the one and only trial so far with the DIY kit. Of course it is early in the season and mosquitos are not yet established. The Solo equipment seems to be high quality. I would rate as 4 not 5 stars because the gravity feed system for the pesticide to the blower nozzle, makes the equipment not function for coverage upward, as necessary for eaves, overhangs and tall shrubs or trees. I now know why an optional attachment is offered for sale to spray up. But it seems like the ability to spray upwards ought to be considered fundamental, not optional. Hence a less than ideal rating for the kit.

Professional Mosquito Kit
By in Winston Salem, NC on 06/06/2013
We are so pleased with our Professional Mosquito Kit. For the first time since we've lived in our home (15 years) we can enjoy being in our yard, whether sitting out or doing yard work, mosquito free! It is an added bonus that other bad bugs will also be contained, ie, fleas, ticks, ants, etc. AND - once it dries it is not toxic to our pets or other animals around our home - birds, squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks, etc. My husband said the equipment is definitely professional grade and although his shoulders were tired after the first spraying, it is so worth it. The initial cost is high, however, it will pay for itself in one season. We will recommend it to others without hesitation.

Mosquitos Bye bye
By in New England on 07/23/2013
I receive the kit . Added gas to the machine , runs mint. Mixed the product and sprayed my entire perimeter of the yard. It's been a week and the Mosquitos are 97 % gone. It says it lasts 30 days. Depends on amount of rain. It even got rid of the horse flys and deer flys. For about 5 days. It killed what was in the area at the time but I think they travel further than Mosquitos.

Easy way to eliminate insects. Will pay for itself in one summer. First application got mosquitoes under control, also got rid of spiders and wasps on siding and eaves. Motor starts and runs very quiet. It is heavy when full.

The SOLO 451 is nice blower. I live in Washington State on five acres of wooded property and yes, we do have mosquitos here lol. Me and my wife were a little hesitant at first about spending a large sum of money on something we have not actually seen in action but we had to do something if we wanted to enjoy being outdoors. The blower arrived as promised and was fairly easy to assemble and operate but once you fill the tank it is pretty heavy and a little ackward getting it on your back. The blower nozzle does tend to work itself loose when operating but other than that it does as advertised. We now go outside in tank tops and shorts with no fear of getting bit by mosquitoes. I ordered some fly killing solution and flea and tick control solution as well and will be spraying this week. Another satisfied and happy customer:-)!

Solo 451 is of excellent quality. I love this machine. It makes spraying insecticide easy and fun. Much easier than dragging a hose around the yard. I use it to spray Bifen around my yard, bushes and high up into the trees. When I get done it is like someone dropped a nuclear bomb in the insect world. Total devastation for mosquitoes, gnats, yellow flies and horse flies.

The sprayer is a very heavy unit, as well as, its difficult to get on your back, and some parts come lose and fall off. The sprayer works well, has difference settings and the chemical dose does its job.

It's too early to say with certainty but initial results seem to be what others have said and that there seems to be nearly no mosquitoes after spraying. I live by a swamp and the mosquitoes were terrible. I think they're not as bad as they were in numbers before I sprayed but nothing now. The only bad thing about the unit is that it is leaking the chemical mixture on me when filled full. I will have to see if there is something I can do to remedy this problem.

Mosquito Control Kit
By William in Freeport on 09/02/2016
I have sprayed three yards and found it not as heavy to carry around as I thought would be. When you clean your tank do not remove your hose to the tank because o-ring will pop off. I'm sure book probably tells you this. Starting is quick and easy. I plan on another spray this weekend to get the ones I missed last week. So far very happy with unit.

Worth Every Penny- Get your property back!
By Steven in Howell, Michigan on 06/21/2016
I bought the Mosquito control kit with the Solo blower from DoMyOwnPestControl at the beginning of 2015. With 2 mosquito seasons experience I can say this kit was completely worth the money! We moved into our current house in 2014 and were overwhelmed by mosquitos. Our prior home had a lot of mosquitos and I used a hose end spray bug control from the hardware store with good results, but it was completely ineffective at our new home and we spent all of the first summer dodging swarms of bugs. I bought the Solo blower at the start of last season and haven't seen a mosquito since! The Solo blower is heavy but reliable and starts every time with 1-2 pulls. I replaced a plastic clamp on the blower to sprayer arm that kept popping off with a standard steel hose clamp. I recommend mixing the water and chemicals together in a separate container rather than in the Solo's tank. I've reordered Talstar 3 times from DoMyOwnPestControl and always get great prices and fast shipping!

QI ordered the Mosquito Control Kit - Ultimate and was expecting some type of instructions of what to spray (Harmonix Insect Spray, Talstar P and Archer IGR). What do I need to mix together and when? Do I use them all separate?

QHow does Talstar perform on biting flies, particularly over a large area - acreage?
ATalstar works great on fleas. It will not break down in the sunlight and has a residual of 30 days outdoors. we also recommend that you mix in a IGR to stop the reproductive cycle of the fleas as well. Archer would be great choice for you. It is photstable and very effective in stopping the life cycle of fleas.

QWill the Talstar leave a build up in the Solo Sprayer?
I am concerned that the Talstar will leave a residual that may inhibit the spray nozzle of the Solo backpack sprayers performance.
AYou would treat the Solo Sprayer as you would any other backpack or hand held sprayer and rinse out the tank and blower with clean water in a triple rinse method. If cleaned properly between uses of any product including the Talstar P, it will not clog the unit or cause any damage. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

QWill the Solo mosquito control products kill lightning bugs too?
A Are you referring to the products that come in the Mosquito Control Kit - Ultimate (which includes the Solo 451)? If so, then yes - most insecticides are not really selective in what they kill, so these products would also kill lightning bugs if the lightning bugs were to come into contact with a treated area.

QCan I add Onslaught to the recommended mixture in the Mosquito Conrol Kit?
How much Onslaught would I use?
A You can use either Onslaught OR you can use the Talstar that is included in the Mosquito Control Kit-Ultimate, but you would not ever mix Talstar and Onslaught together to use at the same time. If you want you can rotate every other treatment with Onslaught and Talstar each time you treat every month. Onslaught would be mixed at 0.5 to 1 oz per gallon of water.

QCan you explain the safety of pets and other animals when using the Mosquito Control Kit - Ultimate?
Will the chemicals that come with this sprayer harm my dogs or other animals. Dogs do eat grass from time to time.
A Mosquito Control Kit - Ultimate is safe around animals when used as directed as each label. Pets and animals should be out of the area during treatment until dry. The small amount of product left behind would only be enough to harm a small insect.

QI have several large arborvite bushes that have birds and mosquitos, will Mosquito Control Kit - Ultimate treatment harm the birds?
Will this treatment harm birds nested in treated areas? Any sale on the Ultimate pro unit?
A When used as directed the products in the Mosquito Control Kit - Ultimate will not harm birds. Just be sure to apply when they are not in the area and hopefully they will not return until dry. Be sure to direct treatment to the underside of leaves of trees and bushes as this is where the adult mosquitoes lay during the day. The products in the kits are offered at a discounted rate when purchased as such so there is no current sale on them.

QHow many gallons of mixed Talstar would it take to treat 3 heavily wooded acres?
A You would use about 2 gallons of Talstar at a rate of 0.05 fl oz per gallon of water to cover 1000 sq ft consistently of heavily wooded land with the Solo 451 Mist Blower in the Mosquito Control Kit - Ultimate . You would want to use the ExciterR and Archer IGR both nearest to your residence not out in the dense areas.

QHow do I protect flowers and bees that pollinate them?
I have a lot of flowers in my yard. I want to treat the entire yard for mosquitoes, but I don't want to kill the bees that pollinate the flowers or damage the flowers. what should I do?
A Our best recommendation when applying insecticides like in the Mosquito kit and bees are concerned would be to make the applications when bees are not pollinating. There is no 100% way to protect bees when using insecticides, natural or not.
